Liquid Cool Kenne Bell Question for 03 cobra

A lot of people in my cobra car club are telling me not to get a kenne bell blower because of the heat soak.

Did kenne bell ever fix this problem? Or is it still an issue?

Heat soak or not the MOST power ive ever seen on a Mustang GT500 (2008) made 1437 whp. BES Racing stroker with a 4.2 Kenny Bell.

It was a stick shift but nonetheless thats the most ive seen a Mustang Make other than my own but that has a Turbo so not apples to apples.

But to be honest I have NEVER seen anyone run anything other than a Whipple or VMP ever anywhere..... I do find it hard to believe they are still in business considering ive never seen one at the track ever.... Apparently ppl still buy em tho.

Kenne Bell? Your Cobra Club must be old school. Like Brett said, seeing one nowadays is very rare. There are much better options out there, like Whipple, VMP and turbo.

Plenty of us running them. My car isn’t a race car, it isn’t a car that sees pull after pull after pull on the highway. I want something fast, fun, and something I could afford to built (not cheaply but responsibly). I got my 2.8 KB brand new for $3,200 in 2022. It may not be the best blower but it makes boost, makes horsepower, and for my goals and purposes why would I spend another $2k? Made sense for my car and budget.

If you aren’t making money off your car going fast, then I’m less inclined to tell you to get the absolute very best. If you have the money laying around I would agree a VMP/Whipple is probably what you should buy but if you don’t, KB is a perfectly fine option that will make power.

I don’t think it's been an issue since KB moved past the old auto rotor designs.

People would joke you could fry an egg on the old 2.2 after a few passes at the track.

You have to also remember that back then the best heat exchanger upgrade was the old fluidyne. Nobody was flow modding intercoolers nor was there a good aftermarket intercooler.

That intercooler is SOLEY responsible for removing heat from the system. Leave it stock at 15-20lbs and you'll get heat soak with ANY blower. Whipple and VMP can't escape physics.

Lastly I doubt there is a 10 degree or more IAT split between KB, Whipple and VMP on a stock conventional intercooler below the blower system.

Run what you want, nobody makes a perfect system.

Also the "liquid cooled" Kenne bells just cools the rotor pack gears, right? They are still intercooled with a heat exchanger without that.

What makes these better than the LC mammoth Kenne Bell?

I dont get paid to go fast, I take my cobra out for cruises, most of the time and do some pulls along the way. However some Chevy are Porsche etc pulls up next to me from time to time. I want to do the cobra name right by taking them to gappobees.

I like the look of the mammoth also I've heard it whines as well. I just don't want to spend the money on something that will cause me more problems than I bargained for.

The liquid cooled KB blowers allow you to spin them a little harder by cooling the front rotor bearings.

The rear bearing stay cooler because of the cool air entering the rotor pack.

What car is this going on?

Keep in mind the AVERAGE car enthusiast now days doesn't actually understand shit about how ANY of this stuff works.

The same guys who tell you how to build a car are the same ones who had a shop build theirs. They think that alone makes them an expert.

This is going on a 2003 cobra. I figured they didn't know what they were talking about but I wanted to make sure.

To me the LC should have solved the heat soak problem of the earlier versions.

From what I've seen all similar sized blowers put out similar power. They all put out heat that needs to be dealt with. In the end go with the one you want to see under your hood whenever you open it. Oh, and I can hear my 2.9 a little at WOT.

I'm running the VMP intercooler. Cruising temps are about the same as stock, but when I get on it the temp stays stable for longer and after I get it out of it the temps recover a lot quicker. Get the manifold with the intercooler as well. It's pricey, but worth it.

Pretty much. They want the latest and greatest. The problem was for a whiles the gains didn't make swapping blowers worth it IMO. I went with the gen 4 because I could still get the standard inlet (I didn't want the headache of the crusher) and I've always liked how Whipples look. I definitely gave up some power compared to the 3.0, but I'm ok with it.
