What’s going on guys. Back in August/September I purchased a turbo cobra that was for sale on here, Jim’s/rip04ow. It was, at the time, the most built one on here for sale, at least that I saw. I’m happy/proud to announce that this week I’m making the switch to a built 4L80, so I can click off some crazy times at the drags, and cruise around in the car. With the t56 magnum in the car, the car was making a bit over 1000whp on e85. While switching out the trans, we will be beefing up the suspension some, putting in a much better boost controller, and doing some other things here and there (new wheels, cage work, brakes etc). I’m just really excited about the trans finally arriving for the car so I wanted to share with people who might care.

Hell ya man congrats!!!!! I’m looking forward to the swap too when the time comes

I can’t express how excited I am about the 4L80!! I was thinking about going with a 4W75 but my tuner talked me out of it into a 4L80 instead. Couldn’t be happier with picking the GM trans over the ford one, it looks and sounds like it’ll last a hell of a lot longer.

****en cool man! I would be excited too. What’s your best time with the 6 speed? How much faster do you anticipate to run with the auto? Is it a solid axle car?

Never ran the t56 magnum at the track but with the auto and a good driver this is a low 8 car in the 1/4 all day. Car is SRA. Whole thing is overbuilt in the best way. Livernois 5L low compression forged engine, heads, cams. Built and braced and shortened 8.8 with strange 35 spline diff, 35 spline axles, etc. No expenses were spared with this car. The only ‘weak’ point would be that it’s an 8.8 and not a 9 and even then it’s as built as an 8.8 you can make.

Sounds like a hell of a ride! Enjoy that beast.

Keep us posted. That's quite a setup you have at the present. I'd love to see a track video after the auto is installed.

Here’s a pic of the car when I got her... haven’t seen her in person with the new welds yet.

10 year ago I would have said what the hells wrong with you. But I’m turning 60 next month and had knee surgery 2 years ago and it’s never been the same. So a auto sounds pretty good. Can I ask what is the total cost?

I have a foot injury from when I was in the Navy so I can’t do manuals too well, the Auto was an eventuality that needed to happen.

Haven’t picked out a converter yet, still trying to decide on that.

Nice move! I just got done switching to a TH400, and I was one of the people who always said that autos were dumb. It's just as fun driving around!

Good luck with it and post some updates when you get to the track.

I believe my builder has already picked out a converter but I’m not sure. The issue with the converter is that as the car is turbo, it will have and will be running different maps and different power levels. The cruising around tune makes over 400hp less than kill so you can see an issue there. Gotta find the sweet spot between too loose and too tight for the whole power band. All the work is being done by LRS Performance and ASSC Racing in Illinois. They built the car, so it only seems right that they handle the swap and the new tuning of it. Massaging the trans tunnel to fit the 4L80 looks like it’s going to be a PIA lol all in all can’t wait to have her done. Switched from the CCW’s to these Welds.
