Does anybody have any tips on how to get melted plastic bag off of an exhaust pipe? Already tried scraping it off - no luck. It's like trying to scrape off JB Weld.:mj:

Don't ask how it got there.:cuss:

I ran over a plastic seat cover. It melted to the drivers side cat and pipe. Your best bet is to use a scotch brite pad and finish the job with a scraper.

Smells good every time you come to a stop doesn't it?

Been using these brown pads on the plastic with no luck.

I think I'm gonna just put it on a lift and go to town with some sandpaper or something. But then it'll be prone to rust in those spots. Only had the prochamber on for about a month.:fm:

OMG...when I read the title to this thread I thought you had been crawling around up under the car after a 1/4 mile run and burnt your nuts on a catalytic converter or something.

Whew. "Glad" to hear it was a *plastic* bag. :D

Oops, I think I can actually contribute here.

I had a VFR with a high polished Staintune. My girlfriend at the time loved wearing those crazy clunky heeled high heeled shoes, the black soles burned off on the pipe. I waited until it cooled down and then just used #000 steel wool. Took it right off and actually polished it up. I went over the rest of it with the wool and it looked like I had used mag wheel polish.

Just a thought.

Worked for me whenever my boots melted to the pipe on my CBR
Yup. Get the pipe hot and wipe off as much as you can while it's still semi-melted with a cotton rag and then scrub it. You might have to repeat that a few times, I did.

try brillow pads with water. when i burned my boots on my motorcyle pipes, that was the only thing that would work. make sure the exaust is cool before doing this.

hmm.. d@mn bags are after us. I used a razor blade to get most of it off, and the rest burned away after a day or so.

I'm in the same boat. Mine is like JB weld on the pipe right where it passes in front of the gas tank. I've taken the car a long drive to get it nice and hot, so I thought, and it still was not hot enough to be able to get it off the pipe. I finally gave up since I can only see it when I'm working on the car so it's not a big deal. I sure would like to know how the heck the pipe was hot enough to melt the bag in the 1st place though because I have yet to get it hot enough to scrape the crap off.

I have the same problem, but it is on my Escort not my Cobra. So the best policy is prevention -- if you are driving through a field of bags, drive the cheap car.
