Decided to post a pic of the Getrag V160(Toyota Supra) & Getrag MT-82(11-14 Mustang). As you can see the V160 is a stout unit in comparison to the MT-82. V160 is on the top and the MT-82 with the busted 3rd gear(shopcar) is on the bottom. With the V160 being good for 1000+whp that should've been Ford's pick, but we cant have everything in life..lol. Lost 3rd gear right after the shift right around where the engine makes it peak torque. Went a 10.35@ 137 with a 1.58 60', Next pass tried to get after it and this was the result. I giving the MT-82 one more shot.

Ford probably should have, but just doing a little research it looks like a Supra back in the day in today's dollars is about 30k more so it would make sense it would have a stouter gear box and everything else.

A supra was also considered a supercar and had a much higher MSRP back in the 90s, which adjusted for inflation would be even more today. I would fully expect it to have better parts than a car that's 1/2 its MSRP

I DD mine and have the 1-2 nibble and grind quite a bit. The mt-82 is one of the most, if not the most, finicky straight gears I've ever driven. I don't beat the crap out of my car but fully expect the trans to lay down at some point.

Collin, I can't see because the V160's case is in the way, but does it also have the 3/4 synchro on the counter shaft??

I was just thinking the other day how neat the 5.0's would be with a v160, and someone should figure out a way to get one in. Buddy ran a bone stock one in his 2j drag car and had many passes trapping 150+ before he fell prey to the consistency of an auto and swapped in a th400

Even for the supra being a supercar at the time, its frame is so flimsy tons of videos show it flexing when at the drags or straights at tsukaba.

But I would love to have a V160 in my s197, I'm a huge fan of 1j/2j/1.5j and all of their trannies. All bulletproof as good as the engines themselves.

Just to clarify, thought the 1.5J wasn't really an engine more as a Frankenstein of the 2j bottom end and 1j heads.
