Example: Lets say I change my oil today, put 100 miles on the car and then park it for the winter (about 4 months). Is it necessary to change my oil before I start driving it again even though I only put 100 miles on it? If so, why? Does it break down just sitting in the oil pan?

The trick is to change the oil before (day of) storage, then when the spring arrives.....take it for a long 30 minute drive. The long drive will get the oil very hot, which evaporates moisture and other forms of fluid dilution that is residing in the lubricant.

Driving your car that short, I do not see the issue with storing it all winter long, then following the procedure outlined above. Lord knows, worse happens to a new or used car sitting on a dealers lot.
