So, I've posted on here before that the paint on my 97 was pretty terrible, as most factory paint jobs are now 24 years on. We delivered the car on 09/01 to the painters after waiting over a year for a spot, and we just picked it up yesterday. I have to say, I'm in love with this car all over again. It's so refreshing to see nothing but slick black paint where there was years of oxidation and crazing.

Keep in mind, this is just bare paint. We're going to have it ceramic coated after the engine is gone through at Pro-Dyno next month, so it should end up with an even deeper shine than it has currently.

Looks great.
I'd love to do the same at some point. Laser Red isn't cheap at all though.
Mind if I ask what it cost? Any bodywork involved, other that the basics?

Not at all! So, we provided replacement bumpers, belt moldings, cowl panel, emblems, door handles, and hinges. With those parts taken out of the equation, we ended up at 8700. That included front and rear glass removal and replacement. Honestly, the car was pretty straight from the get go, there were just a couple of dings that had been suffered throughout it's life. The real issue was the passenger fender was beat to death and had about a pound and a half of Bondo in it. That was all rectified and they reshaped the panel and fixed it correctly. Other than that, there really wasn't any major body repair that had to be done.

I know exactly how you feel. I finally was able to get my 98 Cobra painted last year. My cost was 6800. I was able to offset the cost some because I helped tear the car down and do some of the prep work.

Yeah, I'm sure if I had done some prep work we'd have been able to save some money, but I'm happy with the price for driving it to the shop and then picking it up. I'm just excited to get the motor gone through!

Nothing! I'm using Safari on both my MacBook Pro and iPhone. Nothing. Nothing on my PC in my office using Chrome, either.

I feel like your price is right on point. I expected my cost be closer to $10k. People now a days are shocked when they hear the cost of a quality, complete tear down paint job. But I caught my guy at the right time last year. The first covid scare had hit, people wasn't leaving their house and he wasn't getting any claims. Plus he had a few guys that sat down on him. So I told I him I was curious about the paint/body trade and could I help on my off days. He said sure. The learning experience was more valuable than the money saved.

Would love to see pics. Casper's paint has begun to peel on the roof from where needle sized rock chips once were and I'm about to wrap it black. Other spots at the fenders/doors/trunk edges are starting to peel. Would love to strip her down to the shell and get it better than new.

Mike, wrap Casper in black. Say it isn't so! LOL. Casper's alter ego!
