I see work trucks going down the road with their extension cords looped in some weird fashion. It looks like a bunch of loops. I know that is supposed to keep them from knotting up when you stetch them out.

1. Does this work?

2. How does it work? Is there only one way to do it? I googled it, (though to be honest I forgot to do a search on here) and all that came up are ads for stuff to buy that is supposed to keep your cord from tangling, not the method to do this.

Thanks guys! I love this site.

:rolling:

I think those are air lines that you usually see for the trailer brakes.

like this correct?

I think an actual electrical extension cord is too heavy/dense to make recoil like the air lines do.

You have clearly never seen them. Maybe the Mexican population is too low where you live?
I am over 35, I know what a brake line on a semi looks like. Thanks though. Dee dee dee.
These are work trucks like the post said. They have ladder racks on them and they do indeed tie their extension cords up in loops. Hopefully someone will post a pic of what I am talking about. Clearly the first person to reply has seen them.

EDIT..........that came off smart ass. I don't mean it like that but no. That is not it at all. Anyone????????? I am googling my ass off and I usually don't do that until Saturday night after I have been watching internet porn..............

That's it

I've been doing it like that for a long time it works very well........as long as you undo the right side but you'll figure that out the first time you do it:bash:

and then you go and ninja me on the post. harsh.......

What has been done cannot be undone.

I could have deleted it since nobody quoted it. At least I left it alone.

Maybe just go ahead and post what a complete tool douchebag I am as your next post. That might help? :burnout:
I did say extension cord though in my defense, not air line.

Looking at that makes me think it would be just as easy undoing a big old knot. Screw that.

I'd like to try that, but God only knows what kind of impossible to untie knot I would end up with.

it's really easy. just plug the cord to itself, make a loop, stick your hand in the loop, pull the two cords, make another loop, and repeat the process till you run out of cord.

I didn't click on the links already posted, just thought i'd give you a simple explanation in case those directions are too complicated.

BTW: get ready for those really long cords. After a long day of work, the cord gets really heavy as you loop it up.

Seems to me it is easier and faster just to coil the cords around your arm and secure in the middle. Doing it this way I never have a problem with tangled cords. Maybe I'm just lucky? Pretty interesting method, though. Never saw it before.

We've always called it Daisy Chaining. It may look like crap, especially if you have 7-8 cords in a box/tub but it works suprisingly well. The problem with wrapping cords around your arm is you can promote memory in the cord and if things shift you can get the cords tangled. With a daisy chain you can throw the cords around all you want and it won't get tangled.

I don't like looping around my arm, because your shirt ends up picking up all the dirt the cord accumulated on the ground.

I just use a hand-held reel. Like what you would have for you water hose or air hoses. Rolls the cord up nice and perfect. It can only be unrolled straight. takes the same time as rolling around your arm, can be hung up on a wall...the reel I have easily holds 100 ft drop cords...cost is under $10

edit:
found a picture similar to what I have, this one holds 150ft and is $6.99 online
