I have a 2014 GT500 w. factory nav and shaker pro. Honestly the system sounds fine to me, but the UI is starting to look dated; and with the lack of support from Ford, I think going aftermarket is the way to go. Has anyone upgraded their head unit to a Pioneer or Kenwood unit with andriod auto? I can't seem to find a direct fit dash kit or anything to make this work. It appears the idatalink maestro will retain the factory on screen climate controls and such. So the only question is the dash kit and compatibility with the factory speakers, sub and amp.

I have factory Nav in my car and don't plan to ever change it out for a afkt head unit but I'm guessing that you are referring to this item?

It looks like using the above part and the required ADS-MRR unit will allow you to put any afkt. head unit (ALA it's a Kenwood or Pioneer one it looks like) into the Shelby.

Best thing to do if you haven't checked out the site below is to call or email them and ask them what will work with your Shelby and the factory stuff it already has and see what they say.

That kit is specifically for non nav equipped cars. I've found numerous solutions for those configurations. I think an aftermarket head unit may even fit in the stock location which is why I thought I'd ask if anyone had attempted this before.

Well the way I see it that kit allows you to add an afkt. head unit to a S197 Mustang (don't know for sure if it will work in a 13-14 Shelby that's for you to find out).

You can still have NAV in your car it just won't be the Ford factory NAV since you will be replacing what's there now with something else that has it's own NAV system.

The sonic site shows tons of head units that have NAV they say will fit the car.

My concern is not losing factory nav, but the problem I see with the kit is that it reuses the LCD screen from the base radio. I'm going to take some measurements and see if we are even in the ballpark to fit a new head unit behind the factory trim. I'm actually surprised that this isn't a popular swap. The factory nav system sucks.

I've installed a Kenwood DNX-572BH in my 2013 with Nav. I'm using the Metra adapter plate and the idatalink Maestro integration unit. It works great. I'll be replacing the DNX-572BH with a DNX-573S on Wednesday as I like the interface better.

Here's mine-

That's an Alpine INE-W957HD. I used the top space to install an Escort 9500ci and the cup holder to install my Airlift Performance V2 controls. I bought a passenger side air bag cover and cut it up and had it laser engraved so the whole thing looks as OEM as possible. The idata link controls are occasionally a little wonky from the steering wheel but I'm very happy with how it has worked out.

edit: I don't know how that will work with the existing amps and speakers. I didn't like how the system sounded so I started with an aftermarket amp, dsp, and speakers. I kept going and ended up where I am now.

Wow. That is really nice. Did you have dual zone before this (was it a nav car)

Thanks, it took quite some time getting it the way I wanted but I'm very happy with how it turned out. Yes, it was a nav car with dual zones. In my case I was glad that mus only had non nav frames. The cup holder gave me the perfect spot to hard mount my air lift controls. Prior to that I had the wiring in the center console but always had it strung out because of how often I manipulated the car to get in and out of places without scraping the front end.

edit:
Here's how it looked with just brushed silver -

I can't find the screen to my oem unit or I'd have taken a comparison picture. The Alpine is a 16:9 7" screen. It's not nearly as big as the oem unit. If I remember correctly the oem unit is more 4:3 and a couple inches taller, maybe to the top of the buttons above my radio. If you want, measure yours and I'll mock something up for a picture if you want a better look at the difference. It's been a couple years since I've had the stock nav.
