Cant recommend a shop but i'd suspect one of following as a shot in the dark: Vacuum leak, fuel issue, o2 sensor.

P0171 is Bank 1 lean condition. Shop manual says:

  1. Check intake air system for leaks, obstructions, and damage.
  2. Check air cleaner element, air cleaner housing for blockage.
  3. Verify integrity of PVC system.
  4. Check fuel delivery system and filter for restriction.
  5. Check for vacuum leaks.
  6. Check MAF.

I usually recommend GTR, but I'm not sure how much of a drive that is for you.

Since it's only one side I'd suspect a bad sensor or exhaust leak. MAF, fuel, and PCV issues usually affect both sides. I would swap the sensors side to side and see if the code follows.

Thanks guys.

Went back over the list starting with exhaust and found the passenger side stud midpipe to headers had backed out ever so slightly creating a leak.

Removed, reset stud, added a little blue locktite and so far so good.

Next is brisk spark plugs. 14.50 ea vs the Pepboys autolites at 2.00 764 on sale but what the heck. I am going to give them a try.

Full off road exhaust, Predator tune and CAI.

Plugs are original in car.

No point in $15/ea plugs unless it's a race car IMO. You won't see any gain over the "regular" plugs. I've had issues in the past with Autolites with the ceramic separating from the metal case. I've been running NGK's for years with no issues.

281 Placentia recommended. Sold me on the high end design. Small money. Plugs that came out were factory 1998 installed in my 1999 Cobra. Plugs looked great. No issue just thought after 20 years they were due.

I wasn't saying don't swap plugs. Just that I couldn't see spending $15 per plug when the $2 per plug will work just as good. Back when I had my supercharged 01 I was swapping plugs every 5k or so because it seemed I was always checking them.

I agree.

If these fail I wont replace with Brisk. Shop recommended so I went for it. New to Ford cars.

I will go back to the 20 year lasting OEM plugs or NKGs.

Car ran great no issues on factory 1998 original plugs.

I wanted to do a compression check so I figured I would replace the plugs while I was in there kind of thing.

Much to learn and I appreciate feed back.
