I've prepped and primed these, and I sprayed a first coat of the duplicolor 'chrome in a can' on one and about half of the other valve cover. I sprayed red on the other half. I'm on a fence, I'm not sure what color to go with here. The chrome is more of a semi-reflective silver. I think with some clearcoat it could look nice. On the flip side though, the red I think with a few coats and lots of prep can look just as nice.

Going on a Red Lightning. Someone else decide for me so I can finish these up :D

I like the chrome color personally. I ordered a set from trick flow that should be here today. First they told me they were natural brushed aluminum OEM style. Now they are saying they are powdercoated OEM style. WTF. Why would I pay 180 bones for powdercoated when I can do what you just did with a $5.00 rattle can.

What did you prep the covers with before you sprayed them. It looks like they came out great.

Fairly simple process.

Step 1 - Degrease/Clean with simple green. Dry and wipe down.

Step 2 - Apply Adhesion Promoter. Waited about 10 minutes.

Step 3 - Apply high-build primer. Waited about 30 minutes.

Step 4 - Wet sand for any runs or obvious flaws/bumps/etc with 320grit, wiped it off again, then wet sanded for smoothness with 600grit, then 1200 grit (optional, 600 looked just as good). Clean again.

Step 5 - Apply base. I used a light coat first, followed by a medium, then a medium heavy coat. Between each spray I waited about 30 minutes and wet sanded with the 600 and 1200.

Add clearcoat, lots o clear coat.

I ended up going with red though because the first time i put clearcoat on the chrome, it darkened up a LOT and started looking more or less as if I just put a clearcoat on some primer. It looked like shit.

I need to get my hands on some of that alsa corp killer cans next time and do it right :D
