I'm planning out the rims and tires I hope to have by next winter, and I was wondering if anyone here is running a 295/40/20 in the rear on a lowered car? I know that's ~2.5" taller than stock, so I'd like to know if it will even fit. Rims will be 20x10 +40. I'd really like to run this width, but if I can't then I will have to jump down to a 285/30/20.

So any help?

That's a really tall tire, OP! It's around 29.3" tall! I thought that I had tall tires when I had my 315/35/20's (28.6" tall). Honestly, there are other tires out there in the 295-width range that will be better suited to a Mustang and closer to the stock height. Nitto makes their Invo in 295/35/20 which is around 28" tall, about an inch taller than stock. But, like I said, there are other manufacturers out there that offer 295-width tires for 20's with more appropriate heights for the Mustang, as well. Also, there are 285/30/20 tires out there that are near 27" tall (factory-height). I'm just trying to help...

Id go down to a 295/35 or 30/20. The 40 would not look good and be too tall for 20's

Yeah, I know that's a tall tire. I was just looking to see if anyone was already running this size by chance.

Unfortunately Continental doesn't offer the ExtremeContact DWS in any other size than 295/40/20, that I can't find so far. I haven't checked their website however. The next size down is 285/30/20, which is shorter than the stock 255/40/19, which I don't really want shorter...

Plus, I can't find a comparable tire to these in terms of reviews and UTQG rating of 540AA in an ultra high performance all season.

295/40R20 on a 20"X10" 40 mm offset will rub the rear fender.

I have 295/35R20 on the 20"x10" 40 mm offset in the rear and the tire just pokes out just beyond the edge of the rim. It would rub if the suspension could be compressed enough.

Damn....

If only Niche offered the wheels I want in a 9.5" width.

Guess I either 1) have to find another comparable tire that has a 285/35 size....

Michelin Pilot Super Sports come in 285/35/20. (104Y) rated too.

Check out TireRack.
I appreciate the repsonse, but I really would like to stay around the 540AA UTQG rating that these DWS have, also stay in the ultra high perf all season category.

Well I guess either change wheels, or go with 285/30/20 tires and live with the -0.3" diameter difference. LOL. I don't want larger wheel gap! :(

I have 285/30/20 on the 20x10 rears, but it looks odd to me with the front 255/35/20's. I'll be going to a 295/35/20 when the current rears are toast.

I'm running a 285/30/20 on the rears. That .3 difference in height means a lot going down the track with 3.73's. i can make it to the end of 4th with stock rims and tires but not with my current rims and tires, I run out of gear with about 50-100ft. How much of a drop do you have op? I have a 2.5" drop in the back with the h&r super sports and I think I might be screwed going with a taller tire. I'll be switching to eibach pro's so i can run a 35 on the rear. Even with those I think I'll be cutting it close.

I'm lowered on BMR springs, about 1.25"(F)/1.5"(R).

The rims I'm looking at are only offered in 8.5, 10, and 10.5 widths. I plane on going with a square 10" setup, running 285/30/20s all around, with a 3.55 gear ratio.

I'd go with 285/35 instead of 285/30. You will still have a pretty significant gap in the rear with a 285/30. IMO. I'm 1" lower than you and a 30 I still have a little room to spare. Either way you go be sure to post pics.

Yeah, the more I think about it, I want to go bigger in the rear. So I'd go with that...but then it come down to if I want to run a 28" tire up front...

Damn....why does this have to be such a pain in the ass to figure out...

Lol i feel your pain. Honestly if I were to do it over again or doing it from your standpoint, I'd keep the staggered setup I have with the 20x10" in the back 20x8.5" in the front. Go with a 255/35 up front and a 285/35 in the back. I think you would love it. The stance is really aggressive looking.

Why not get 'em staggered?

I just feel like 8.5 is too small. IDK why, but I see it as why not just keep the same rim and tire width up front as the stock brembo wheels?

I emailed MHT asking them if they planned to produce a 9 or 9.5 version of the rims I want, at least in the "style" line of the wheel I want.

I can custom order some T6 monoblock wheels in 20x9 and 20x10 for $1200/wheel....:whine:

I have the same size staggered setup with the same size front tire. I'm going to see how the 295/35 fits on the back. I'm on Roush springs (1" drop) so I might even be able to go a little wider. Anyone know if a 305 would rub?
