I sold my first bike the beginning of summer, 2009 Yamaha FZ6R. I have always liked the classic look of the HD Nighsters, 48s, and the Victory Gunners so I had been searching for one. Well, I finally found a deal. It needs tlc, it was a Repo at the bank.

Here it is, 2007 HD Nightster

It needs washed really well, fluids changed, surface rust removed from chrome, and maybe a paint correction. Plan is a tuner, exhaust, and some small stuff. Not much though.

It had 7371 miles when I loaded it up. I got a good deal, about $2k less than what similar mileage ones were at.

I will start the rehab after I come home from California.

Sweet HD....should look good with some tlc and some new pipes

Thank you, it does need love. I put a few miles on it last night. The battery and engine light comes on intermittently, I believe the battery is bad. It was DEAD when I brought the bike home. I am going to just go ahead and change the battery and voltage regulator, possibly the strator also.

I put in some Seafoam in the gas and oil and once that circulates, I will change the oil. I also plan on new plugs.

I need to get to cleaning and polishing.

I called a guy about a V&H FuelPak, might get that when I come home from vacation. Plan is a full exhaust, intake, springs, and some appearance stuff to black out the bike.

So, this is what the tank looked like when I rolled the bike into the garage.

And this is after some love.

I put a few more miles on it. I am really thinking a retard owned this thing. The oil is overfilled. A drain is happening probably next weekend.

For now, time to prepare for California.

Lookin good man! Keep at it, itll be worth it.

These bikes really have alotta potential. I bought an iron in 11 just have a little bar hopper. Some clip ons, a sawzall, lowering blocks, hid's, pipes, intake, rim tape, taking the speedo and front fender off, relocaring the start switch and removing alot cluttered looking crap i think it turned out pretty good. Looking forward to seeing it done!

I want the 883 Iron Rims!

Ordered a new Voltage Regulator, hopefully will have a V&H FuelPak this week, picking up a new filter, oil, plugs, etc... I ordered the Magnaflow Legacy Exhaust in black.

Good news and bad to report.

The good is that I got the voltage regulator, plugs, and exhaust changed. The Magnaflow Legacy Series sounds great. The bike fires up easier and idles smoother.

The bad, **** me! The T30 bolt for the rear brake control snapped off. I did not get a chance to ride any. I now have to figure out what to do.

I love the sound of the Magnaflow! It is not much louder. The plugs looked rough. The valves looked like they need some Seafoam ran over them.

Bike is at the shop getting looked over, new Michelin Commander IIs, the brake rod replaced, and exhaust lined up.

The next round of upgrades will be stainless brake lines, new intake (HD Bobber style), Progressive 12" rear setup, Progressive front springs, and new fork and brake fluid.

Any problem removing the broken bolt?

I got a great deal on a bike because it had two broken bolts and the dealer had given the owner a $1300.00 dollar PLUS labor estimate. I had a local company called TapEx remove them with their electron beam disintegrator.

I have a shop working on it for me. I don't suspect it costing too much for the work they are doing.

Man i hate sportsters, but i love them more lol. Im much happier riding my dyna 2 up and long rides vs my old iron , but sportsters are such cool little bikes and you can make them so badass. Keep working on that one it will be sweet!

I chose the Sportster because of what my needs were. My wife has never really rode with me, just a hand full of times. With our desire to have a child, my wife does not want the risk of riding with me in case something were to happen.

Now, why the Nighster? Easy, it is classic and simplistic. I look at a bike as a different kind of "get away" than the Mustangs. It has to be raw, basic, no frills. No radio to distract you from the ride, the sound, the visceral experience. The Nightster fit that bill.

The bike is back from the shop. I have new Michelin Commander IIs. The clutch was inspected and adjusted. The brake rod issue was fixed. A new spring was placed on the kickstand. The bike axles were cleaned and greased. And they inspected it.

Next round is suspension and brake lines.

This is one a buddy had bought and sold. Cafe Racers are cool. I'm into the simplistic nature of the Nightster.
