If you are going to bother reflashing firmware, I'd recommend using 3rd party firmware like DD-WRT or Tomato.
ok, so should I get the third party or use the official one? I read the tomato's description and it seems like it might be good.
would using a WEP key help any?
Aren't those version of firmware only available for up to the WRT54Gv4?
All a WEP key does is add encryption to your wireless, so your neighbors can't logon to your network (as easily). So yes, if your neighbors are stealing your internet and using up your bandwidth, then adding encryption will help. However, this doesn't seem to your problem here... With that said, YES, encrypt your wireless network.
Alright, I'll add a WEP key to it when I get home from school.
They have a micro version that can be run on the V8.

i put a wep key on it, it seems to be working better now.
