Let me get my brain ready for this

So how'd it go?

thank you

No problem :)

Good post. I'm going to make my son watch them with me :). A little educatin' in the middle of summer never hurt anyone.

I have never seen any video of the X51A, that was terrific! It's striking that even after all this time, with all our current state of the art CFD mathematical modeling, inlet un-starts are still a problem. And I also had no idea they were using JP-7.

I agree, although the X-51A seems to have given the engineers a lot of usable data for future prototypes. Yeah JP-7 seems to be good viable fuel for Scamjet engines. I believe the engineers need to do even more modeling to re-design the inlet to alter/re-direct the flow of air to solve the un-start problem. Easier said than done I'm sure when you're trying to alter the path of the incoming hypersonic air flow… Especially considering there is not a lot of actual hard data out there, that's where the X-51A has proven to be invaluable.

Great post. I'll honestly say I did not fully "get" how a turbojet/turbofan motor works until watching those videos. The idea that the pressure is ~constant between the end of the compressor section, and the beginning of the turbine section, always threw me -- but now (duh!) I see that you add volume at the same time you add fuel, so you end up with the same pressure pushing against far more surface area in the turbine section, and voila! you've got power.

Moar!

The scramjet is an interesting concept. The fact that the technology could propel you over the USA in 30 minutes is an incredible idea.
