Nice info from Randy about the big 3 muscle car.
Yea, WTF is that I kept saying to myself.
I wonder how much track times would drop on the redeye with the Cup 2s vs the abysmal P zeros? Anyone now of a comparison of track times between a Pzero and Cup2s?
The roll race didn't make much sense either should have been way closer if not neck and neck with the GT500. Also Randy has a preference for the Camaros too so probably feels more comfortable pushing it harder than the gt500.
Randy may have high praise / fondness for Chebby but he hit the issue on the head: he would take the Camaro because of the *value* (sub $70k vs $95K, $25K difference for what *value*?). Same point I've been making.
ROFL!!! So true: Mullet! You can’t beat the mullet’s bang for the buck.
Isn't he Canadian?Yea, WTF is that I kept saying to myself.
I don't think it was as the tires on the GT500 were cooked. Did you happen to see the other videos on the same scenario and the GT500 walked the other two? These tests aren't real world asNot surprised by a few of the conclusions in this test, but one thing really surprised me....how badly the Red Eye walked away from the GT500 on the roll test. That's indicative of real world scenarios. Hard to argue against the ZL1 bang-for-the-buck. Dealerships around me have them for around 60-65k NEW. Hard to justify almost 40K more for a fully optioned GT500.
Realistically cooked R comps mean they are on the cords where they no longer work at all, even with zero tread left they work really well (as long as its still all rubber) Some tires actually get faster at the end of life before they fall off on the cords (opposite of a slick)I don't think it was as the tires on the GT500 were cooked. 1)You need to own two Camaros one for the drag and the other for road course.
2)The price of the ZR1 is 64,695 the Base GT500 it only 8k more. The price of the ZR1 1LE is around 72k and yes it more of a gap of 20k between it and the CFTP. More bang for your buck but not 40k.
The GT500 is just a better well rounded vehicle and unless you are just buying a car for only one type of use. The 1LE is better money wise for track use or the RE for 1/4 but if you want both done at a high level you can't argue the money is well spent on the GT500.

So, while I do agree they were likely around 1.5 second slow its still wildly close. The splitter wickers will have done next to eff all.
I thought it was a good preliminary Pony Car test. Randy even said he thought the GT500 would be faster if it had fresh tires. He said the GT500 was 10 mph faster on turn entry from straights... I still think it will be closer than folks expect...
...but, in no disrespect to the West Coasters here, the same shootout needs to happen at a track like VIR where big power pays off. I am "guessing" that the new GT500 could hit 170mph-ish on back straight and 160mph-ish on front straight. Probably even climbing esses exit faster than entry, say something like 130-135mph-ish... Not sure Big Willow is a good place for big factory horsepower in 4,000+ pound boats.
Now, I'm wondering if Chebby upgrades the ZL1 1LE with a 2.something Eaton for say 50-70-80 more HP. The current ZL1 1LE uses the Z06 1.7L Eaton, so I would guess there's room for more?
You take the marked down price of the Camaro (which nobody wants) and then fully inflate the GT500 price just to fit your narrative? Nice ricer math broYou can get ZL1 1LE's for low 60s now. Just call any dealer with one on the lot. Truth it, you can't even TOUCH a Track Pack GT500 for 104K MSRP with painted stripes. I just don't get back the "regular" GT500. I'd always feel like I'm in the inferior car.
If their is 1.5 second between a new and cooked R comps. What would the time difference be between the P Zeros and R Comps for the red-eye?
Not sure if they have the all season or summer p zeros on there either...
Id love to see what all 3 do on warehouse stock NT01's.. I have no idea how good the RE pzeros are. Nobody runs Pirellis at the track as they seem to suck, including the Trofeos. If their is 1.5 second between a new and cooked R comps.
