Hey everyone,

So after we picked up the Hellcat for my wife, I now have blower whine envy...

It's going to push me over the edge to start modding the GT500. I want to end up changing the mid-pipe, pulley, intake and TB, but for now I'm just thinking about doing a CAI and tune.

Which CAI and tuners do you recommend?

Also, what are realistic expected gains?

More importantly, is the blower whine a lot more noticeable than stock?

Thanks!

Hey there,

We have several JLT CAI and tuner options, mainly for the different finishes the intakes are available with. The tuner options are going to be the SCT devices or the new Lund Racing nGauge. On our 13 GT500, the CAI and tune package netted us just over 30 rwhp, but fuel quality can cause fluctuations in those gains, up or down. The Lund tunes also come ready to install a pulley, so when you are ready to go with one of those, just throw it on and you can run the same tune.

When it comes to the SCT or nGuage, the SCT gives you the ability to run tunes by anyone that has the ability to tune with SCT. The nGauge is a Lund Racing exclusive and it's locked to only their tunes. The nGauge does allow Lund to REALLY control the tune better for finer adjustments, so from a tuning standpoint, the nGauge is the way to go.

Thanks Derek :)

So if I plan on doing the above mods at some point, the Lund option would be better?

Also, does the blower noise increase a lot with the CAI?

A CAI will definitely increase the blower whine, but if you really want the TVS to scream then get a 2.39 pulley, that will get you around 17 PSI. I would Personally call Van at Revan Racing, he will take great care of you and get your GT500 dialed in.

A hey from me, too!

For intakes, JLT would be most popular, and for good reason. I have a JLT CAI on my car and it's a nice piece. It leaves MAF room for future mods you do, as well. http://vmptuning.com/07-12gt500/caip-gt500-10/

Tuning wise, VMP offer their own custom tunes using an SCT X4 device. They have a bunch of experience with these cars, and the CAI/tune combination is one of the most popular ones around. You can't go wrong. http://vmptuning.com/vmp-custom-tunes/7015l2/

Roughly 30-35rwhp is accurate, much the same as Derek's numbers.

Although it's a good mod to do, a CAI won't do too much for blower sound. The best way to gain some extra blower sound is by installing a smaller pulley and running some more boost.

Let me know if I can help you at all! :)

I picked up 70 rwhp with the intake, throttle body, and Lund tune. Blower wine increased for me even without the pulley. For around $1500 it is a very easy mod.

Yes, I would recommend the nGauge as Lund will be able to do a lot more with it right now and in the future should you get more aggressive with your modding. The nGauge also works with both Mac and Windows where SCT is only compatible with Windows, in case anyone else is wondering about that (when it comes to tune updates).

The blower noise will definitely increase with the intake but as another member stated, a pulley will REALLY make it scream. The stock look 2.396" from Billet Pro Shop or the stock look 2.40" form VMP are our two most popular choices, with the matching 90mm idler so that you can use the stock belt.

Let us know if you need anything else.

I run a JLT 127, FRPP mono, and MRT o/r H w/ a Lund tune and couldn't be happier, drivability is excellent. I went w/ Lund for tuning because the shop I use has a Lund tuning specialist on site, VMP is also a good choice for tuning you really can't go wrong w/ Lund or Justin.

OP Are you running the stock blower? If so, suggest you give the VMP Gen2 a hard look.. Will make your wife's hellcat seem like she/it's sleeping..LOL GL
