On May 23rd, a F5 tornado ripped through my fathers farm in Dunkerton, Iowa and essentially leveled it. I think the only reason my father and his wife is still alive is that the tornado was moving so fast. It didn't have time to churn like one did in Texas a few years ago.

Old aerial view of the farm from about 18 years ago:

I still can't believe my Dad's farm is essentially gone. I have a bunch of other pictures that are on ground level as well.

I hope the insurance company comes though, but since they are making records profits, it's not by paying out claims. I'll know more about the insurance in a week or so.

Really sorry to hear about this. Send our best to your father and I am glad he and his wife made it out alright.

How the hell did the house stay together?!

Glad to hear they were ok!

Good God! I agree on the house staying together! I want that builder to build my next home:bowdown:

Best of luck to your family and rebuilding.

Im sorry for your fathers loss... i hope the best for him

My guess is the tornado did not pass right threw... but very close and the house has actual structure unlike the Steel and sheet metal holding building/shelters and Barns.. they rip apart like that in big wind storms .. again sorry for the loss im sure the insurance will come threw

Wow.....Glad that your dad and family survived...Must be very difficult to cope with something like that. I wouldnt know where to begin..

Will they rebuild and stay or get out of farming altogether?

Holy hell!

That looked like such a beautiful farm too! My grandfather used to own one, but it wasn't near that size, but it did give me some experience.

The best of luck to them getting everything back up; that's horrible.
