I had a fun day out yesterday. I ran a limited number of laps and just got to push the car as planned and it performed well. I had on semi-slicks Toyo R888s, Brembo calipers with 2 piece rotors, track pads (Ferodo DS 2800), and running as always with 607hp to the rear wheels (roughly 700 HP). I got passed by many and I passed quite a few as well. But my encounter with a Porsche GT2 was even better than the Porsche 911 and BMW M3 overtake at the start/finish line which was caught by a couple of cameras. The GT2 was able to pass me but I was on his tail even through the curves. I also showed a Lotus Elise Exige that I was no pushover on the track. Thankfully it was not a short tight technical course. It was on the Hockenheimring in Germany!!! All fun and all automotive enthisiasts on a Formula1 track.

That would be awesome to run with those cars. I love open tracking my Cobra. Drag racers do not know what they are missing.

Wow. Did you get to chat with the other drivers? If you did, what kind of opinion did they have for the Cobra?

Thanks for the nice compliments. I am not a professional racer. I have limited experience but that will change this year.

It is hard to tell what they really think. It does get quite a bit of attention but it will always be a bit under estimated in this group of cars. Some realized I was impossible to pass out right and even outbrake because as I attempted to yield a position for a faster car I always made room by getting off the fast line. In doing so I really was not setup to get through the corners fast and ultimately slowing them down as well. It is a bit intimidating but loads of fun.

For the spectators in the pits and along the fence it must have been nice because many people stepped out to take photos. I am a easy person to talk to and I am more excited about old Porsches as I am most everything so I ask a lot of questions about their cars also.

Some German people even started complimenting my suspension setup. They must have peeked under the car because they were specifically commenting on the adjustable tie rods and hardware for the IRS. They knew more was done but I didn't get a chance to elaborate. All of my friends were proud. I was there with a 2011 Z06, 2011 BMW 135, and a modded C5 Corvette. They were thoroughly impressed. I just have to work on my driving or mix in with a slower group of cars which I hate because these are real amatuers and most are not properly modded for track events (tires and brakes). Maybe I will get lucky next time and drive with fewer cars on the track.

Overall I did pretty well and I am sure a GT2 owner will remember our encounter as I was matching his pace. I also had to run down the 911 and the M3.

I am so over drag racing it is not even funny.

Nice!! I'm a big open track fan too!
That first vid is nicely put together!

How long are the sessions in Germany?
Did you have to do cooling laps near the end?
With all that power and just a stock hood for venting, that is almost a guaranteed over heat.
Do they require a roll bar for verts like they do here?

Lightness is a huge advantage in road racing/open track and the lack of it hurts us Terminator guys.

Are the run groups done by experience?
Do you ride with an instructor in the beginning groups?
What group are you in?
What experience level are you currently at?

Sorry for all the questions, BUT WOW! You got to run at Hockenheim!!:beer::bowdown:

Thanks, I will post up even more spectacular pictures.

How long are the sessions in Germany?
1 hour each session. Come into the pits and go back out on-track as much as you like.

Did you have to do cooling laps near the end?
No I should have but one time I returned too early back to pit lane and my brakes were smoking. One of my few mistakes. Next time out I will have a bit more help from my friends. I will rent a pit garage and kind of have "Tail gate deluxe" food and mechanics to assist. I will not work on the car. I will focus on driving. I will have two way radio and have them remind me or inform me of what to do, info about the car, and advise me about laptimes. We didn't time the laps. I just got a true feel of what the car is capable of on-track.

It was about 40 - 45 degrees outside this past Saturday and last summer same setup in 90 degree weather it did not overheat. I was expecting it to burp coolant but the most I could do is fry an egg on the Kenne Bell blower.

Do they require a roll bar for verts like they do here?
You do have to sign a waiver but not mandatory to have a roll bar. I have no immediate plans to install one either. I do not change anything for the quarter mile either except for the two rear tires/rims to Mickey Thompson ET Streets. The way the car is setup for the track is the way I drive it on the street and I even mean the semi-slicks as well. I will however change to a better restraint seatbelt system. I am keeping the car a street/strip/road course all rounder. I do not mean to disregard safety but the day a cage goes in will be the day the plates come off and it will lose street duty. Come on guys convince me to do the right thing.

Lightness is a huge advantage in road racing/open track and the lack of it hurts us Terminator guys.
I agree but keeping a 1600 LB Lotus Elise/Exige from passing me and talking to the owner about it felt good. With a pro driver behind the wheel of the Lotus. In all honesty I kept him from running up the inside within the turns. He did get pass when I yielded for a Michelin Cup race Porsche. I was busy watching in my rear view mirrors and slower in many areas because of that.

Are the run groups done by experience?
No, you can take an instructor for a fee of course. Non registered cars/vehicles can not be on-track with registered vehicles. However registered cars can go out with non registered.

Do you ride with an instructor in the beginning groups?
I will next track day in June to re-enforce my fundamentals and to make sure I practice proper track etiquette.

What group are you in?
I am an enthusiast and club member of www.pistenclub.de and in the non-licensed category (Super license for racing).

What experience level are you currently at?
I fall between Beginner and intermediate. I would say I am a well seasoned beginner. I will improve. I promise!!

It is an absolute pleasure to answer all of the questions. Your forum contributions helped me get my car to where it is today. I have been building on this car for years. I recall reading your early posts years ago about your Brembo brake upgrade and your impression about them. I eventually bought a set. By the way I live within walking distance of the track here in Hockenheim.

Awesome video, You certainly upheld the Terminator name for sure. I'm going to be doing a open track session at the Harris Hill Road track in Sam Marcos TX. There will be Five 20min sessions.. I was wondering how you Toyo R888 tires performed.. I have 315 on the rear, 275 front. Did they every get greasy on you.. Your car sounds like a Beast to:rockon:
