The 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 is one of the most anticipated vehicles of the year. The fortunate ones who’ve been able to track test them, drive them or even receive them have sang nothing but high praises about it’s performance on and off the track.

One of those fortunate few happens to be Lund Racing, who wasted no time in getting to work on creating a custom tune for the GT500. Within a couple of days they had not only crafted a custom tune for the car, they even loaded on their signature cammed idle tune to give it a little extra something-something at idle (as if it needed it…).

The cammed idle tune on the 2020 Shelby GT500 is cool and all, but we know what you’re here for: the NUMBERS, man, the NUMBERS!

STOCK DYNO PULLS

Lund Racing put the car on the dyno as soon as they made it back to basecamp from picking the car up (and showing it off at PRI, of course).

First thing they wanted to do was to get a baseline/stock dyno number. Ford rated the 2020 Shelby GT500 at 760hp to the flywheel and claimed to have a less than 11% parasitic loss. The standard “rule” for automatics and parasitic loss is 15% but this is no ordinary automatic, this is the Tremec DCT 7-speed automatic!

With the stock tune, stock exhaust, stock EVERYTHING, the car put down 691rwhp & 581rwtq. The numbers held up to Ford’s claim with a less than 11% loss from the crank to the wheels. How many other cars are running around making that much horsepower BONE STOCK?!

Next, it was time to work some Lund Racing custom tune magic. First up, they loaded a 93 tune and let her rip. With just a tune, the car broke the 700rwhp barrier and made 714rwhp & 585rwtq, a gain of 23hp from stock.

Lund believed the car would benefit from a little octane boost (as would any car) so they tossed some Octanium into the mix with the 93 and made another pull. With 93 octane + octane booster, the car made 725rwhp & 598rwtq. That is an 11hp gain from straight 93 octane and a 34hp gain from stock. This car is a beast.

MOD TIME

When Lund & the guys picked up their car, they made a pit stop to pick up a set of our Lethal Performance 2020 Shelby GT500 High Flow Race Pipes to test out fitment & performance.

We were excited to see the gains from the pipes, especially combined with the custom tuning from Lund Racing. Lund installed the pipes and also removed the factory air box (which they saw as a major restriction, giving us an idea of CAI gains) and loaded the car back up on the dyno to see what they would do.

With the Lethal Performance exhaust, removed air box and a 93 octane + octane booster custom tune from Lund Racing, their 2020 Shelby GT500 made 786rwhp & 623 rwtq, revving to just over 8k RPMs, a 95hp gain!

It is impressive that without even changing the pulley, manifolds or other common bolt ons the car picked up almost 100rwhp.

IN SUMMARY

Here's the numbers:

So far, this car is amazing and we can’t wait to see how it reacts to other mods. We have a few things in the works to be tested shortly and our boy over at Dustin Whipple of course has something for us… #staytuned

So what you guys use instead of the stock air box?, I wonder does the stock fuel system have enough room to run E85?

On the Lund Racing instagram page they threw on some 1050x injectors and e85. Made 803. Says in the post that the stock fuel system seems to be pretty stout.

When Speed Phenom dynoed his AFR dipped into the high 9's so it was supplying plenty of fuel.

I’m surprised we haven’t seen one at the drag strip on DRs, stock or tuned.

How do you figure you can shave 7 tenths off with 100hp??
