Why in the world would they put a 1.7L blower on a new engine with the LS9 has a 2.3? That is going freaking backwards and stupid as hell!! The z06 will clearly need a bigger s/c as the engine is using a lot of air!! SMH... I'd still take a ZR1 over the C7Z..

I too wonder the small blower. The CTSV and ZL1 use 1.9L's and the ZR1 use a 2.3.

They used a small blower simply because it was enough to meet their target power goals from the factory. Frankly, GM could care less about the "potential" of the engine (or lackthereof) and all they need is a reliable unit to make the power they marketed to its customers. They don't care that the engine needs a new blower to make 700+hp.

They also said the smaller blower was more responsive and quicker to build boost so that helped with driving experience.

It's bad news for us as enthusiasts because it takes a blower swap to make big power it seems, but to GM it's a smart move. Cheaper parts to begin with and they could offer a 2.3 upgrade that they themselves could sell to those who wish to have more power. WIN/WIN in my book if I was a GM executive.

Not to make excuses, but;

It was his first time at the track.
He ****ed up the launch.
He shifted from 3rd to 5th
He had 3 runs. The other two were several tenths quicker and 5mph faster.

Not all were 5 mph. The other was 3 mph. Best pass I believe was an 11.5. Still weak.

11.5 @ 125 on poor track prep with no seat time.

I'll watch several of these go high 10s at 130+ in the spring at my local track. Is that weak too?

Ahhhhhh yes, the hero passes in mine shaft air. Check the DA on the top passes. You will be surprised. Funny how on this forum they are called into question for that exact fact yet when trying to downplay the new kid on the block that is not a Ford, they are gospel.

The average C6Z is a high 11sec to low 12sec car. Most mags ran low 12's with a few in the 11.9 range with the Cup tires.

So 10 people in 8 years and thousands of passes have beaten one persons times in a new car. What a disappointment this car is.

What?

Not everybody puts their shit up on an internet fast list. I regularly run at MIR. I've seen probably a dozen stock Z06s run mid 11s or better, and not all were in the good fall air.

This car is on par with the C6 ZR1, and it does it for over $30K LESS. How is that a disappointment? If the 2015 Mustang GT had a 662hp blown V8 at a base price of $35K would that be a disappointment if the first video you saw was a low 12 second botched pass?

I think you sum it up best: 8 years! Might as well make it 9 years since the last version of the Z06 was introduced. The 2006 Z06 was tested by the media when it was first released with the same 1/4 mile times and mph as the current 2015 Z06. Time will tell but so far the car is a bit of a disappointment for those looking for straight line performance. The car has a supercharger and sticky tires too, WTF?

Good point. However, I believe the main issue is the video of the Z getting pulled repeatedly by the Viper, which is much more telling, IMO, as well as the fact that it has become apparent that GM has hamstrung the car a bit, with an overly conservative tune and/or inadequate cooling to allow the car to achieve its PERCEIVED full potential in terms of expected, consistent and repeatable performance for a 650HP supercharged Corvette.

The 11.54 pass in this thread is not bad IMHO, especially considering the driver is just getting acquainted with the car. I don't know too many folks who will just jump into a manual equipped car and immediately uncork a perfect pass. I hope GM will address the tune/cooling issues to at least allow the car to run closer to its expected(perceived) potential, consistently...without forcing owners to resort to aftermarket tunes, thus voiding their powertrain warranty on a nearly $100K car. That being said, I believe the C7Z with an aftermarket tune (from a reputable tuner), will absolutely haul balls, and give 99% of the cars they run up against FITS. All in all, it's a sick car IMO, and very capable.

Agreed as it's probably a ploy by GM to avoid inevitable warranty claims with their track record of late. Tune the car to remove the nannies and void the warranty saving them thousands. I've owned almost every form of GM performance vehicle at some point but their recent quality issues and business practices are questionable to say the least.

Vengeance has already stated the issues are in the tune, not the cooling or blower. They are guessing 800rwhp on the stock blower with a H/C setup. They are already at almost 680rwhp after headers.

I agree but all the experts keep saying its only a mid 11 second car so I guess thats all it is. Give it a few more weeks and we will start seeing the real times that they are capable of. I still say low 10s with just a few bolt ons and some tires.
