Hey guys, figured I'd post the invitation up here. Currently a junior at UConn and this will be my third year working the show. We had almost 1000 cars last year and it's definitely worth the drive! Info is below. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

The UConn Car Club would like to invite you to be a part of our 11th Annual Spring Car Show on Sunday, April 13th, 2014 (Raindate: Saturday, April 19th). Please follow us on twitter or the Facebook event page for updates.

What you need to know:

Location:
RENTSCHLER FIELD, EAST HARTFORD CT
Directly off of I-84; please use the Silver Lane entrance to the parking lots. See map below for details.

Hours:
Gates open to all @ 9:00 am (Please try not to show up earlier because the lot will NOT be ready)
Registration for show cars closes @ 12:00 noon
Gates will remain open until the beginning of awarding Trophies
Trophies by 2:00 pm

Price:
$10 per car to show,
$3 per car for spectator parking in a separate lot.

Participation Policy:
Please keep cars and music turned off when parked. Burnouts, donuts, and excessive engine revving are strictly prohibited. Dangerous / risky driving while arriving or leaving the premises will likewise not be tolerated. East Hartford Police as well as State Police detail officers will be on-site for the duration of the event.
Also, per request of local police and facility management, we must ask that all attending the event stay away from the chain-link fences between the event’s entrance/exit and spectator lot next to Silver Lane. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Participate at your own risk.

Parking:
Like last year, the size of Rentschler Field allows us to accommodate virtually any number of cars for showing. A couple years ago we had to turn cars away because the venue was too small – no longer!

There will be no pre-registration. Due to the nature of Rentscher Field’s parking lots and the sheer volume of cars attending, we cannot guarantee parking with friends, clubs, groups, etc. If you want the best chance at parking together, make sure to arrive together. Please note that even this does NOT guarantee that we will be able to grant all parking requests due to the extreme volume of traffic anticipated.

Important: Spectator parking will be across in a separate lot outside of the lots for registered show cars. If you do not plan to register your car for showing, you will be asked to park in the spectator area. Police officers and club members will be available to direct you.

All Cars Welcome!
For those who have yet to see one of our shows, we tend to amass some of the greatest diversity of cars in one place. Anyone who has been to a previous show can attest that there's something for everyone, including Classics, Domestics, Imports, Euros and even Supercars. All makes, models and price ranges of vehicles are welcome.

Trophies:

- Again, unlike years in the past, we will NOT be restricted to just 600 participants!
- Please review the participation policy above if you haven’t already.

- We will have toilets available at the show as well as food.

I really liked this show.

Until some ass hat decided to go mudding and spray mud and rocks all over our cars a few years ago. Dings, dents, scratches.

The organizers offered to pay for the damages and cleaning. They never did. All set, thanks!

I just asked the Club President about this..apparently it was a year or two before I came to the school. I don't know much about that situation but I apologize that you guys had to go through that--I'd be pissed :fm: I was told that issues like that are why our flyers say "participate at your own risk," because while we do not condone burnouts, donuts, aggressive driving, etc. at our shows, there is not much we can do if someone decides to get into their car and do something stupid.

Again, I apologize for that experience, as we really do try to put on a good show and keep things running as smoothly as possible. On a side note, that incident took place when our show was still on-campus. Now, we are at Rentschler Field in Hartford, which is a much nicer location, so there will be no chance for another mudding incident!

It's more that the owners of an M5, a Cayenne, an M3, and a 911 turbo were promised things- by the organizers. And no one followed through on their promises

On principle- I will never- ever go again.

"Participate at your own risk" yea- no shit. That's with anything. With that response- I see why nothing has ever been done to make my friends whole.

Again- all they had to do was follow through- and we all would have been back.

Again, I'm not very aware of the incident, nor was I involved, but I can't say that I disagree with you. I'm sorry to hear about that experience, and wish something would have been done so you guys could be back

I contacted the current club president, and he asked me to post this on his behalf:

Hey guys; my name is Joe, and I’m the current President for the UConn Car Club. Zach pointed me towards this thread so he could gain a little clarity and understand better what happened with the incident described by user Chris!. You’ll have to bear with me speaking through Zach until I can get my account approved on here.

Chris’ explanation of the incident is 100% true based on what knowledge I have, but therein lies the problem – “the knowledge I have”. The fact is that not a SINGLE one of our current members or officers, myself included, were a part of the group of individuals that organized (or even simply participated in!) the Show the year that the described incident occurred. Honestly, I’m so ignorant toward the whole thing that I can’t even tell you what year it happened in. My entire knowledge of the incident comes from hearsay and snippets I’ve heard from third parties, not dissimilar from what Chris has laid out above. I wholeheartedly agree that there are a multitude of things that should have been handled more competently both during and after the incident, and it is terribly unfortunate and irresponsible of those who were involved in that situation did not follow through with what they said they would have.
That being said, I don’t believe it’s wholly fair to hold a grudge over the current membership of our club for something that none of us were involved with. We are a college club; our membership turns over rather rapidly. Unfortunately for us, we have to work to absolve any negative stigmas and events we’ve inherited, and this is one of them. Honestly, I’m tired of hearing about it – it inevitably comes up in about one thread every year, and I don’t know what I, or we for that matter, can do to change it. At this point, I feel foolish offering “details” or “repairs” to cars that have likely been detailed, repaired, and possibly even sold some years in the past now. I’m left with really no obvious option but to reach out to those involved back those years ago, and see what can be done to individually make each and every one of them happy.

And, again, this brings us to one of those forks in the road – I don’t even know person number one to contact to begin to make things right, being that no one I know was involved. Like I said before, myself as well as all other active members weren’t present at that show and had nothing to do with how it was run before, during, or after. All that we essentially know about the incident comes from the stories like this that come up.

That being said – Chris, if there is personally anything you think I can do to assist in making things right for you personally regarding this situation, please let me know (via [email protected] will be your best bet for a fast response). You seem to be this “person one” that we’ve been seeking to hopefully reach out and absolve the current and future members of past demons.

I just hate for it to be one of these situations where nothing can be done to make it right, and yet for us to still have to deal with this dark cloud following the show years into the future. Like I said, if there is something you think I can do for you, please reach out. I’m not saying that I’m going to throw the kitchen sink at everyone in attempt to make them happy – I don’t think that’s necessarily fair, either, but I will at least make an attempt to come up with some sort of solution. If, on the other hand you feel there is nothing that can be done at this point in time, I can only plead that you reconsider your opinions. I don’t think that the current membership, nevermind the future membership looking to enjoy the club, deserve to deal with something that they are wholly disconnected from outside of this abstract, inherited relationship. I will be leaving the club at the end of this year, and truly hope that those who come after me don’t have to deal with this; I believe it is simply unfair to them.

Anyway, thanks for your consideration and hearing me out Chris. Again, I just want to reiterate that I’m not suggesting that you’re wrong in your opinion – I certainly agree with you that it was handled inappropriately. I hope you can see where I’m coming from.

If it was a Saturday I would bring the Cobra. No way I'm going to CT to grab my car, drive to hartford, then back to waterbury to dump the cobra and drive back to Boston.

I might attend though cobra-less!
