I've been trying to remember all the ranks for the last few weeks. Found it and it saved my life for the Generals. lol

How far up the totem pole is a Major General in the USMC (2-Star).

Buddies' dad is a MGEN at CPEN, wondering how many people are above him on base

Overall a 2 star is pretty damn high up the totem pole. As far as generals go its the bottom of the middle(if that makes sense) as there are 4 general ranks. 5 if you were to include the General of the Army 5 star position but that is a special rank that is currently empty, hasn't been one since 1950.
