Email tune (VMP Tune) was in the car when i purchased the car a few weeks ago. Added an o/r xpipe and CJ 65mm and went to my tuner to have a dyno tune done. After making changes for the xpipe we did a baseline and it made 604. After dyno tune she made 667, pretty cool how much extra you can pull out of a car on the dyno compared to the email tunes.

    Enjoy!

That's a big gain, well worth the dyno tune cost IMO

How much of that gain was from the X-pipe and throttle body though?

Don't know, never made a pull before they went on. We put the car on the dyno and turned off the rear O2's and then made a baseline pull with with the email tune and it made the 604 with xpipe and tb. then after the dyno tune it made the 667.

VMP TVS, 2.5 pulley, JLT 123, stock lower, stock manifolds, roush resonators, Dr. Gas mufflers, stock injectors-97% duty cycle now though. And now the x and CJ65.

The TB and OR pipe will have a significant difference especially on a TVS blower. It is true they can dial it in more on a dyno but VMP mail order tunes are quite good. I am guessing you would have still been within 20ph on a mail order with the new mods.

Your probably right, had i sent them a updated list for mods they would have provided an updated tune making more power than the 604.

The tune was real rich, which they usually are on the safe side but we were seeing mid to high 10's to start with. Also there was quite a bit of timing in the tune as well.

Betcha if you would have got it dyno tuned with VMP it would have yielded around the same numbers. Congrats.

I like dyno tunes because you have that SAFE feeling afterwards knowing that your car is running safely and making the most power possible. I have nothing against email tunes, I have one myself but your left wondering if your making the most power and torque possible and is it running safely.

So, your baseline (604) was on a different day and/or dyno plus you went from cats to no cats AND added a CJ65 throttle body?

Can't compare the findings at all.

You saw a mid 10's a/f on a bung? Sniffer? Was the sensor calibrated?

95% of our emailed tunes are within 11.3-11.8 when we're given the correct parameters with which to create the file.

Glad you're pleased and feel secure with your tune, but I felt responsible to clarify test conditions so that you and others can use consistent data on which to make future comparisons.

I think everyone knows and understands that the op didn't gain 60+ hp from going to a dyno tune over his previous email tune. We know the parts are mostly responsible for the gains and had he added those parts to his list of mods and got a new email tune he'd still have some nice gains from the parts. My car is lightly modded so m comfortable with my email tune but every car is slightly different and its known that some cars make more power than others and when or if I add a new blower I will probably start off with an email tune but for peace of mind and for the extra 20-30 possible hp/tq I'll def get my car dyno tuned. I personally can't afford to buy a new engine so the 300-500 will be worth it. Again, I don't think anyone is knocking an email tune but I would think that even you would prefer to have your own car dyno tuned, especially if its heavily modded. JMHO

Need to slow down there bud and read through the thread. I wasn't saying your guy's email tunes aren't good. I even said that had i provided you a list of updated mods the tune you guys sent back would have been a good one.

Here i'll type it out again for you:
    1. I bought the car with the blower and email tune already on it.
    2. Last Wednesday i pulled the the stock x out and switched for an o/r x pipe and the CJ 65. No dyno time at all yet just switched those two things.
    3. Saturday i went to my tuner for a tune. Put car on rollers and turned off the rear O2's and made a baseline pull. Car made 604 with VMP email tune (A/F was both in bung and sniffer in tailpipe), and calibrated. Car read rich at a 10.5-10.8. and timing was pretty high. With the x and tb.
4.My tuner then started tuning the car. When he was done it made 667 about 1.5 hours later after the run on the email tune.

Like i said im simply stating that a dyno tune is safest and the way to go if possible. I have nothing bad to say at all about VMP, i was very impressed with the TVS and power it made. Actually the car made more power than an equally equipped 2.9 whipple car. Whipple car made one less pound of boost and it made 654. I am impressed with the TVS for sure.

I did pick up over 60hp from a dyno tune compared to a canned amazon tune in my old cobra.

Those gains are highly unusual any way you slice it. My mail order tunes are generally not that far off to begin with.

First, since you bought the car used, we don't know if it had a VMP tune in the tuner, regardless of the sticker on it (if you have the original owners name I can look it up). Second, we don't know if it was adjusted. I get some customers that want to plug in the handheld tuner and add fuel to make it richer and in theory safer, but its often not necessary.

Making power at WOT is a combination of fuel, spark, and conditions. Once the A/F is in the right place you are spark limited by the octane of the fuel you are running. You can alter the conditions by dynoing the car hot so it comes in low and then dynoing cool. You can also see different numbers with different correction factors on the dynograph.

I also find it unusual for an 03 cobra to pick up 60 from a dynotune, assuming the mail order tune was good to start with. Who does your tuning?

In the SCT Xcal it says VMP Tune and that was the one loaded in the car. I bought the car from the second owner and he told me there was a lund tune in the car to begin with and then a revision and then the VMP tune and it was much better. Again, in the SCT it has two lund tunes and one VMP tune, and now my dyno tune and race gas tune. No stickers anywhere on the car.

The car was trailered to my tuner since he is about 200 miles from me and i didnt want to run the car that far without the proper tuning in it. We put it on and let it run until temps were good and made the first pull. then from there he started tweaking. It was pretty cool out, 64* and iat's never got above 81.

The cobra was a ported eaton with a 2.8 pulley and a canned Amazon tune in the SCT not a custom email tune. So nothing special or very spot on to begin with. Like i have said many times in here this little TVS is bada$$ and i'm definatley impressed with it. Heath @ Premier Performance in Salt Lake does my tuning and is awesome at his job. Highly reccomend him.

We don't do "canned" tunes. Any tune purchased from us is a custom tune.
It is a preliminary tune that has to be optimalized by providing datalogs of specific PIDS and AF readings.
