I have my power level where I want it at 600hp, now want to focus on improving handling. I only have what's in my sig and cut stock springs. I am pretty disappointed in how my car handles. My Jetta with the factory sport package corners better than my Cobra. What can I do to improve?

+1 on coilovers. One day after I have the power levels where I want it I will get coilovers.

Front suspension tightening maybe as well??

A-arm bushings & ball joints
steering shaft/rag-joint replacement
swaybar bushings, endlink bushings and endlink height adjust..
bumpsteer...

BTW: I know what you mean about handling..I've got an A4 Quattro..

I'm pretty happy with the way my Cobra handles IMO. But if you want to go all out. Coilovers will do good. However your main problem is the cut stockers. You would be better off with aftermarket springs (H&R Race) and revalved Bliston shocks.

Your question is too general. Take the car to an open track/high performance driving event and learn how to drive. This is not an insult, it's just a fact. It's not like straight line racing where more performance parts, in general, make your car faster. My stock Cobra can outcorner your Jetta, I promise you that much.

Did you bumpsteer your rear suspension when you did your bushing kit?

I see you have a "MM adj. tie rod kit" listed in your sig, is that front or rear?

Bumpsteering the suspension is very important to correct poor bumpsteer curves typically found on OEM suspension.

Thanks for everyone's response except mu22stang. The MM tie rod kit is on the rear. The front is totally stock except cut springs. Does the front need a kit as well? I had the suspension checked out and apparently nothing is worn or loose. The car only has 23k miles on it. I don't think it is a terrible handling car. I would just like it to be tighter and more predictable. I think I will start with front bushings, h&r race springs, and revalve shocks.

Id ditch the stock springs, and get some good ones. Get a new set of shocks. Subframe connectors just to stiffen everything up. Thats all i have so far and mine handles great considering what little i have into it.

Good catch...I didn't notice the cut springs.

My H&R race springs are chewing up my old oem shocks..

Thanks man!

If you decide to get your struts/shocks redone. You can have them match your spring rate of your aftermarket springs. Check the thread below.

To OP. If you don't want to spend the coin on Coilovers, You can always try a set of aftermarket springs and see if you like them better. You have a pretty good suspension setup, Just that's your only drawback I can see. Another thing to consider is what kind of tires are you running. They play a bigger part in handling situations then you think. Wish you the best OP!

Thanks for everyone's response except mu22stang...

I'm trying to save you money and genuinely determine your needs friend. I'm not going to tell you part X will make your car faster or handle better. You are comparing the handling characteristics of your front wheel drive, 4/6 cylinder, +3,000-lb sedan to your Cobra. That doesn't help me understand what you're looking for in a car. If you don't want help, but a new parts list instead, suit yourself.

MM has a whole set of front bushings and bump steer setup for the front. You might want to go with a nice aftermarket K and full bushing kit, bump steer, coil overs, 18" rims, Nitto or better tires. Some Giant brake kit will help you out too. I have almost everything possible on mine and it handles like a racecar.

Thanks everyone! I think I will try some bushings, springs, and struts/shocks matched!

I'm pretty sure what MU22stang is trying to tell you is a Jetta with a four cylinder, being 400-500# lighter than a Mustang is going to handle a bit better with both cars being in relatively stock form. Not to mention the Jetta most likely has a much better F/R weight distribution than the 57/43 of the '03 Cobra.

If you want to improve the front suspension of a Mustang to convert it into a corner-carver you'll need: K-Member and LCA's with Delrin bushings, rack bushings, steering shaft, bumpsteer kit, CC plates, coil-overs, and wider lightweight wheels with at least a 275 tire on them. Then you'll be running circles around that Jetta!
