I am taking the cobra in for warranty work, I have read where SVT guarantees a rental when you get warranty work done on an SVT... Can anyone back up this statement?
If the dealer you call says they don't provide rentals then I'd still call SVT and see what you can do. Because going to another dealer might not be the best choice, and you shouldn't have to spend money on a rental. By the way, dealers often provide loaner cars from their own inventory for 1-2 day use. This would be different than getting, say, an actual rental car.
I got me a rental after I asked for it. On the work accomplishment instructions for the mechanic, the rental clause doesn't show up in the same place. They have to look about five lines of writing hire to see: customer is provided with loaner-wash-vac.
I have always called my dealer to arrange an 'appointment' to drop the Cobra off and have never had a problem getting a loaner car. I think they use their lot and used cars, but they've all been okay. Even when I dropped it off for a tick that turned out to be a header gasket leak (non-warranty item). No issues with using their cars. The Escort was my least favorite and the 500 was my most favorite (brand new, like 28 miles on it). Make arrangements and you shouldn't be disappointed. Good luck with it.
