Radically conservative is the way it was built.
It rides good, handles well, goes like all heck, AC, tunes, etc.
I was cruising one night in Texas,
and a 99 Cobra owner flagged me over.
We parked at Whattaburger and shot the breeze.
He said he knew somethng was up with the car,
but couldn't figure out what.

Ive always loved the amber rear turn signals, and it looks perfect in red with terminator body and cobra Rs! Glad its everything youve wanted it to be(and then some) so far!

Steve:

Congrats on a great project.

:thumbsup::coolman::beer:

Thanks Bruce.
It's the closest I will likely ever get to having an "R".

Thanks.
I picked my favorite items from the New Edge parts bin for this car.
From the Terminator bumpers and mirrors, 00 "R" hood, 99/01 rear lamps,
Mach/Bullitt sail panels, and the Terminator interior.
(It even has lighted visors)

I'm really liking the N/A idea on building my motor.
Thanks for your help and being so detailed in this thread.
I think MM&FF or 5.0 would love to put your car in there mag.

A magazine would be cool, but who knows?
I have a neat idea for a 2010 Mustang build.
If I only had the dough.......................

Not fond of 3V motors.
It would also be 5.4 32V NA with factory and FRPP parts, and a little extra.
Already researched it, and it can be done,
it just hasn't been at this point.

That chassis would make finding long tubes a lot easier.
Curve looks great. Over 400 hp from 5800-6800 ain't to shabby. And tq a 4.6 could only dream of.

Headers would be easier on a 2010, for sure.
The curve is a tribute to Al Papitto's knowledge and ability.
It does everything I hoped, and then some.
It pulls really hard and keeps on pulling.

Think of it this way, you are making more power than a stock 00R with a more streetable interior. You have the best of both. You need to be plastering that dyno sheet on every forum possible. I have really been shocked that more people don't do this. I dunno, maybe more GT guys try it than Cobra guys.

I will have to search around for a stock "R" dyno sheet.
I think they were rated at 385/385 FW.
Maybe in the "R" section.
I would not mind building a "drop-in" for someone who wanted one.

Unfortunately I never dynoed my R when it was stock. But after a Bassani high flow exhaust pipe (catted) with a Spin-Tech cat back it put down 385/384 rw. After I did my 90mm MAF conversion kit, cat removal, different cat back and an SCT tune it did 410/408 rw.

FWIW

My car is set up quite different than Birdman's. Mine is built more for strong midrange and screaming top end. I plan on spinning mine to at least 8000 rpm. It certainly pulls to that based on my break in runs. The Sullivan is quite different than the Boss, there is a reason why Birdman choose the hassel of getting intakes from Austrailia and custom fabbing a hat for it. With that 00R hood, he has plenty of clearance for the Sully. His cams probably are smaller than mine in duration. So I'm expecting a much steeper curve than his. Peak torque number about the same, maybe a bit less, and peak hp quite a bit higher.

Pretty accurate.
The Sullivan does not make the torque down low that the Boss does.
I wanted a high torque, streetable combination that is fun to drive.
The stroke of the 5.4 (4.165") overcomes the 4.6 lack of low end,
yet the 32V heads will let it flow air up top.
Also, the exercise of mine was to see what could be done with as many factory parts (and FRPP) as possible.
My stint at Ford development and working alongside Ford engineers
must have gotten into my blood a little.
Aside from the obvious 2000 "R" parallels,
Al's red car was a great model to build from.
Al was very helpful and insightful, knowing what my goal was.
I am a bit old school, new school,
and was able to develop it in a way in which it could be duplicated,
should someone else want to go a similar route,
without buying a bunch of expensive, one off parts.
99-01 Cobra with a blown motor?
Replace the short block with a 5.4, and re-use what you already have.

This is one of the more powerful examples. Many were in the 340-350's. The original press cars with a different exhaust were in the 370+/385 range.
Motortrend did a dyno with one of those... 5.0 has a spread sheet from a car with the bassani exhaust upgrade in the 360 rwhp area. It seems with intake, exhaust, tune an R is about ~400/400 at the wheels.

Here's an 03 headed custom manifold deal.
