Saw a thread in the SN95 Cobra section so I figured i'd do the same since it applies to me lol.

I've always wanted a cobra but always have been stuck with GT's for some reason & after I buy my GT I see a cobra for the same price or similar the same week or next. I love my bullitt that I have now & will be keeping it & every time I get inside & drive I get more attached it. Some people don't want a cobra & love GT's & throw a 4V in there or can't afford a real one & I think they get a little less respect than they deserve.

So what keeps you in your 2V?

Me it's b/c I search and search for a cobra or mach 1 & no dice then I see a really clean GT then snag it up. My bullitt is near complete on suspension so that saves me alot of $$ & all I have after that is the motor to build. That's one of the reasons i'm keeping it.

For me it is because I own mine flat out. Then there is the fact that I have put so much money into it I have gained the attitude of "why stop now?"

With all that said just because you have a 2v doesn't mean you can't beat up on the 4v guys. Honestly unless you have a Terminator having a 4v doesn't do that much for you. I say this because the bottom end on both engines is the same and both need upgrading before you can make serious power.

True. Once you start upgrading internals & adding FI it comes down to who has the most $$. I"m starting to see more 99-04 GT's run mid 12-low 13 with a few mods & 12's with cams. To me 12's is hauling & that's all I want out of mine is a 12 sec car.

I think it all comes down to what you can afford, what car you have access too when you go to buy a car, What look you want.

I love my cobra and my GT. Each has its own purpose and i would not trade one for the other. Most people who do not know mustangs, think they are all the same anyway.

So drive what you love and what you can afford. The best cars are ones that you do not have a payments on.

I first owned a Gt then got my Mach 1 and I'm now back in a gt. I have loved all 3 of my cars but it came down to me being tired of paying the payments on the Mach so I sold it and got outta debt with my 2v. Little did I know I'd be back in the hole with a blown motor lol but I still wouldn't do it any different the gt is a totally different beast. They are all great I just don't think the 2vs get the respect they deserve.

All good points.

I have been looked down on for driving a 2v, even though it has a KB. Crap like that drives me nuts and honestly I don't understand it because we are all enthusiasts.

For me it's simple, why spend 18k dollars on a cobra that some other retard has worked on probably ran the absolute nuts off, when I can have my 6k dollar GT and turn every nut and bolt myself! The prices of cobras are honestly ridiculous, as I get older I realize more and more that the 03-04's are nothing special. I could build a much more fun/faster/better looking GT, and to me that's more fun being the underdog!

But in all honesty it's about who has the most money, always has been always will be. Done to much to the GT to ever get rid of it now!

Exactly how I feel. True enthusiast should able to appreciate a well built car of any make/model. Now a days it's like if your mustang is not a cobra or new 5.0 it ain't nothing no matter what's done to it.

I agree. Buy a mildly built GT for lets say 6K & spend another 5-6K & be faster than a snake. I wanna be one of those "oh it's just a GT guys" & blow the doors off who ever under estimated my car & shut them up.

I think a lot of the hate you guys are feeling is just what you read on here. This site is for the most part just 03/04 cobra owners. Of course people are going to love what they have and look down on something that is not the same.

A true car lover does not care if it is a 4v,2v or SS. At least that is the way i feel. I love my cars but would drive a new z06 all day long. When i see a car i see it as somebody has spent a lot of time making it what they like. Just because it is not a 03/04 with Saleen wheels on it does not mean that i should talk crap about it. But others don't feel the same way i do about voicing their opinions.

I couldn't afford a Cobra at the time so I purchased a 99 35th Anny and modded it a little at a time. My parents lived in the Appalachian mountains and I loved to drive over Unicoi Gap, on the switch backs. I installed a Kenne Bell blower, then Cobra brakes, lowered the car and finally installed weld in subframe connectors and a 03 Cobra IRS. All the accessories work on the car, it's a blast to drive and (without ethanol) gets 22 mpg on the highway. Before that I owned every Camaro body style that there was and worked in a Corvette shop. I enjoy all cars with the possible exception of the "riced out" stuff, but I work for a Japanese automaker on a Grand Am team so I guess I appreciate any decent engineering but I'm pre disposed to American muscle cars.

I got my GT for a steal and it needed some help. ill probably pick up a coyote or a KB 03-04 in the future to keep as the clean summer car. The GT just made a good start to what was to become a failrly stripped street car. No sense for me to shell out coin for something i was going to take apart anyway.

I bought mine b/c I wanted it. I waited almost ten years to own it after the first time I saw it in person. Owner had no intention of selling but when it did go up, I paid asking price no questions asked. I've driven lots of versions of the Mustang, and this '98 is the most well put together all around variation I've ever been lucky enough to drive.

They all share the same body. Everything is interchangeable and the premium for the Cobras is not worth it in all honesty. I can start with a clean 2V that has been taken care of by grandpa and not beat to shit like the Cobra probably will be for 1/2 the price or less depending on what Cobra it was that year and be into it for less than the asking price of the Cobra when I'm done with a car that'll assrape the Cobra on every level. But I'll still be "just a GT" lol. One of the biggest sleepers ever is a Mustang with "GT 4.6" on the side of it.

Or, in my case, my 98 GT came with a Cobra R hood, Cobra bumper and replica Bullits already on it. All I have to do is spend $200 for a driver's COBRA airbag and some badges/center caps and then another $200-$300 to get the OEM Cobra bumper sitting under my deck painted and I've got a "Cobra".

A lot a hate on a SVT forum. I daily drive my 02, so it's not about speed there. Though I have bolt ons I have realized there will always be someone faster on the street. My car is reliable sounds good and looks good, at least to me. I did just buy a 96 Saleen with a second motor built and a turbo kit and I got that for less than most 96-98 cobras sell on here. It might be a little 2V but it has a lot of potential, a nice appearance and the parts on the car are over 99-01 cobra and Mach price range. People buy the 03-04 for the power, and the easy ability to change a fuel pump or add a BAP and be over 500 without internal damage or waiting 12-16 weeks to built/ piece together a motor and get all the tuning done. Also some people factor in the IRS. Mach 1's are nice, but they seem to be a step below the cobra simply because the SVT holds more significance than a regular ford with decals and a shaker.

You forgot the drive train, suspension, brakes, seats, dash cluster and the 'little things' that actually make the Cobra an upgrade from the GT.

For me I have too much invested in the GT (not that its anything outrageous) but I feel that for what I could sell it for as a 2001 GT with 114k on the clock full bolt ons, clear car would not be anywhere close to what I would need to buy something else that is as satisfying to me. It has been a daily, and recently put into 2nd vehicle toy status so now I can slap the vortech on and have some real power. Not modded terminator power but enough for me and at a fraction of the cost.

my gt for reference is in my sig pic, paid $7500 for it about 4-5 years ago and I have put a little into it since then.

One day I will own another mustang (maybe a 03/04 vert or a g500 vert)

There is something about having a clean looking 2v compared to a clean cobra that is double or triple the price. I plan on getting a kenne bell and keeping almost stock look. Want people to laugh and think I have a stock 2v vert then put the hood and be like what lol love the underdogs!! ;)

Here a couple reasons why i keep my "v6" lol. After the swap, stock and slightly modified cobras didnt stand a chance. Here in a month after i get it tuned, Im sure it will eat most everything that lines up next to me. Granted, i bought it as a bone stock v6 back in 08. I have much less money than most people have into their cars and ive done absolutely everything myself. Not bad for a car that im expecting 600s out of.
