Given that only a small percentage of '03 Cobra owners are logging in here and the vast number of problems being reported there are major problems a comin'

3 to 4 thousand of these cars have been produced. By comparison there are very few problems being reported. And most of those are bad cats, hardly a catastrophe.

we need to start a database so 03 cobra owners can submit their problems along with their dealer, vin, etc. by entering that info in to a template on a website.

I saw something similar for 01 cobras a while back.

VAST number of problems??

I dont think so, most of the posts I see are positive in nature and as a percentage the complaints are actually pretty low for a new rollout. The problems I have seen would not be classified as major problems in my book!

I may do something like that on my new '03 Cobra site which should be ready in 2 more weeks. I'll post the info when it's closer to completion.

I was at an SVT dealership a few days ago in Wauconda, IL where they had an undelivered black 03 coupe up on the lift for a cooked right side main converter. It had turned a blueish-brown color and rattled when the tech rapped on it. The service mgr said the other 03 Cobras they've sold were relatively problem free.

I bought my '03 on Thursday...... haven't even drove her yet.... Bad gas pronblem, I am tyring to get my build date to post. They ordered the plugs on Friday, and I am hoping they are here Monsay and installed so I can enjoy her on my day off, do they have to replace the cats too???? My car only had 15 miles on it, so hopefully it didn't effect the cats yet, anyone???

00yellowr,
I had the bad gas issue as well. Interestingly, in my case, they changed the cats and not the plugs (they pulled, cleaned and reinstalled them). I'm fairly certain your dealer will have to replace the cats as I was told they had 'burned up' from the bad gas. Any catalytic converter experts out there have any more to add?
Best of luck - once you get her in proper working order - you will absolutely LOVE her.

They said that once plugs have been removed they could not put them back in???? I asked them to just clean them, but they said it was against polocy to put them back in, They are ordred, sould I mention the CAT thing, I originally clued thm in on the GAS thing, the car simply wouldn't start they said, then the found it was flouded, and then they told me it was bad gas that fouled the plugs??

well my rpoblems are almost over--my 03 cobra have been off the road for 22 days today--engine blew rod at 160 miles.ford/svt/dealer have dragged their asses like this is 1950 as far as helping me to unwind car deal and get another car. when 30th day rolls around i will submit to lemon law proceedure and legally stick my foot up ford/dealers ass. this has been the worst nightmare possible and cleaver irony because i am a service manager for a honda dealer. this is very clear evidence that at least one domestic car manufacturer still cannot get get their stuff together and handle their customers right. honda blows ford and svt off the road in the manner/speed they resolve customers problems. even svt has been no help--talked to jesse at svt--oh yeh i look into it and call you back--evryone form g.m. at dealership down sidesteps me. i also notice somehow dealer managed to bury sales survey as they will get torched. what a bunch of sorry ass people from ford customer relations down to the dealer level. great car but absolutely no effort to help a guy who just spent 35k.

00yellowr,
I'll have to mention the policy on the plugs thing to my dealership. They didn't seem to have any problem with it. With regard to the cats, I suspect that if your dealership tries to just change the plugs, they will quickly find that the car will run poorly, if at all. My dealership didn't have any trouble finding replacement cats, so hopefully yours won't either. Best of luck and let me know how it works out.
Cheers,
Pete

Re: redracer

redracer,

I know what you're going through. My car has been off the road for 26 days now for bad vibrations. They've tried everything from replacing the ds, to making a custom ds and indexing it. Everything they try fails. Anyhow, I'm planning to sue Ford next week if they don't get me a new Cobra. I'm in Northern CA in case you're curious.

I've read many of the problems others had and I only have 3 issues. 1. A dime sized dent in the rt front fender from shipping 2. Rt headlght cracked from shipping 3. Driveline vibration. Parts are on order for the 1st 2 so it's no big deal but I haven't reported the vibration.

For those who have had the vibration I'd really be interested it it's the same as mine. At about 80 in 6th it really feels like I have an unbalanced driveshaft. My rearview mirror shakes so bad I can't see out of it.

Here's why I haven't reported it: I think my wife induced it. It didn't do it until she drove it unescorted the first time ( She came back with a story of how she wiped the street up with some poor GT ). I had the vibration the very next drive. After a day it went away ( figured the clutch was still settling 900 mi on car ). Two days later I misshifted ( hit 2nd at about 70 instead of 4th on a downshift ) whamo vibration back. Any else making the same connection as me ?? Driveline vibration= unsettled clutch plate, caused by the driver not the car.:punch:

On my car you can feel the vibration real bad if you depress the clutch and slowly release it about a third of the way. The car has to be in gear and driving to feel it. Check it out on yours. I though it might be the clutch, but the vibration goes away when the clutch is fully engaged. This is why I feel its in the trans/DS
