Hey guys...So long story short, one of my best friends has a 03 cobra. Its his second car, and his baby : ) and i have always told him since i fell in love with it, that if he ever sold it, i was first on the list to buy. Well, he isnt ever selling it lol. So, im kinda in the market for a Terminator. I am very knowledgeable about the car, and know exactly what i want out of it, however, i keep going back to spending a little more money and getting a shelby. While i havent driven one, just newever technology, bigger engine, and the fact that if i buy this year, in 3 years the termi is 10 years old :lol1: is it worth it? I can pick up a shelby sooo easy for low 30s, but cobras are harder to find it seems. i also just love the back end of the cobras to! so, with somewhat of a budget in mind, which car is better? i know they do different things better, but for a street hot rod machine for a 26 year old and into his 30s?

I like the shelby front end, and i like that it wont be "dated" in the years to come. Love the cobra, but hate the inside : ( Its not going to be a DD, i have a tuned 2500 duramax for that :)

Well there's a lot of things you have to take into account with our cars and then the shelbys. The terminator is going to give you that raw rugged feel while the shelby is more refined and up to date. That's one thing I love about my car is I can feel all the raw power and I know that everytime I drive it I'm not sitting in it expecting it to feel like a Mercedes. I don't think I will ever get rid of my cobra...but if I did it would be to buy a 2011+ Shelby (I say plus because I know it would be down the road if I ever did haha). And like you said...I think the terminator has the sexiest backside of anyyyy mustang out there

What an amazing idea!

I don't think I have ever heard of comparing a GT500 to an 03/04 Cobra in my entire LIFE!!!

I wonder if there might be other threads on the inter web making that comparison as well???

Naaaaa there couldn't be.:dw:

Yup. I was selling my car a while back but there's no car out there that would give me more pleasure to drive than my Terminator (for the money). Plus I think they're sexy as hell!

Yep....the exact kind of answer I would expect from the guy in your picture....a douche comment. Go find another thread, or spend your time sending in applications to tool academy. maybe for once in your life, give someone the benefit of the doubt. I did search, and i did read, but couldn't find what exactly i was looking for SO I DID CREATE MY OWN THREAD. So, with that said, let this thread rock on  and i would appreciate any insight from anybody that could leave something positive behind. This is my zen area lol : )

The short answer is drive both and decide which you like best. Some love the Terminator and is slightly unrefined feel. Other love the more refined feel of the Shelby. I always loved my '03 Cobra but I've never driven a GT500 so I can't say which I'd like more. Design/style wise I like the Terminator hands down. But a 2011 GT500 would be hard to turn down for sure.

Some pretty good comparisons actually.

Too bad you have such a low tolerance for internet sarcasm.

3 posts and all ready name calling. Not a very good reaction to a little teasing.

Have a nice thread.:bored:

Sarcasm on the first post from somebody i dont know can look, well you decide.

thanks for the great replys guys. Im going to go drive a 08 gt500 friday. Besides the new aluminum motor, are the new ones THAT much better? im not looking for handling, which im sure the lighter one does better, but more straight line performance. do the new ones just put out that much more hp, and is the engine better, or the older 07-10 block more reliable and can take more HP? Future wise im looking at doing a kenne bell, and maybe some 3:73s i would like to get it into the 10s

I love my Cobra... While I have never driven a gt500, I would much rather have a Cobra. It get everyone's attention everytime I fill her up with gas. People always ask questions about my car while im filling up... especially drunk people..

Welcome to the Cobra Forum. There is some great info here. Hope you feel welcome and find a Cobra or GT 500.
Higher Mileage 03/04 Cobras can be found starting around 13,000 and can be as high as 26,000 Stock. I would stay away from a modded Cobra with miles. I have seen some 2009 GT500 under 30,000. You will have better luck getting financed on th GT 500.
The also the Gt 500 are making over 500rwhp with exhaust, upper pulley and a tune. Not bad for less than $1000 in stuff you can do yourself. Hope you find something.

IMO, no. I would only buy a newer GT500 if you have to have any of the upgraded features, or if you prefer a newer model. The '08 should be a better deal, even if you want a lower mileage car. I think you'll be happy with your test drive Friday.

I'm sure a lot of guys would love to know where you have found some 09 GT500's for <$30k that isn't salvaged or a clone!!!!!!!!!! GL with that!

I sold my 03 Cobra Vert and picked up a 09' GT500. Only complaint is clutch problems. I installed a JLT intake, 2.6 pulley, tr6's, catback, DR's, and a tune and am very happy with power. It is definitely faster than the 03 was, with the 03 having more mods. Once you start modding, a clutch won't be far behind. Hoping to be around 550rwhp. Ride and interior is definitely more refined in the GT500's. The 03 seemed more violent but was not as fast. it will all come down to what you are looking for in a vehicle and what you're willing to spend.

waiting to install a new clutch before getting it dynoed.
