Let's not forget about all the turbo-4 Dodges he built during the 80's!

You are correct, and it was later said that it was a mistake. The omni, the shadow, etc. On a positive note, the ONLY person to put profanity on a car and get away with it. GLH (Goes Like Hell).

AGAIN…I am not happy with having a 4 cylinder Mustang, and being how Shelby had NOTHING to do with any 4 cylinder Mustang, I don't see him remotely having anything to do with one now. I could be wrong if he were still alive. I'll take my chances as I (and others) knew his formula. Light weight, huge power. The "supposed" weight of the 2015 was supposed to be at least a couple of hundred pounds lighter, and it is not. So to not only put a 4 cylinder in a Mustang, but in one that weighs more…that would be completely against his formula, as well as tons of others that common sense says, lighter weight and more power accomplishes more performance wise.

You are a typical Shelby owner...... :smh: Shelby was all about making a buck and thats it. He had zero to do with developing the 2013/2014 car.

lol. So all those years building cars while being the longest living person with a heart transplant was strictly in it for the money. Nice.

Carroll wanted a car that would do lots of things. GT500 was his namesake. The 2013 met those expectations.

We are getting way past the initial point though, so let me reiterate…

I DON'T LIKE, NOR WILL I BUY A 4 CYLINDER MUSTANG. PERIOD.

Whew…geez.

There are ALWAYS ones who think they should be in the convo by making cheap insults. Don't you have something to do like…ordering your 4 cylinder Mustang?

I'm not buying one because I want an N/A car for my next build but I'm not discounting them. Perhaps you should scroll where I explained to you how CAFE standards work.

I'm not concerned. I bought a non-4 cylinder Mustang. Maybe Ford should be concerned about what we have been buying for the last 20 years. 4 cylinder mustangs did NOT enable them to dodge a government bail out. However all those Saturn 4 cylinders and dodge neons sure helped them dodge one as well.

No, Ford took loans out on everything including using the Blue Oval, F-150 nameplate and Mustang nameplate not because people were buying Mustangs.

So what is the reason the Viper?? I don't see 4 cylinder Vipers running around in order to have ones that carry that V10 monster under their hoods. Or much less, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Maserarti's, etc. Even bigger…where is the 4cylinder Camaro if it is such an issue????

It's divided up between the averages of the truck and passenger car fleets. The Fiesta, Focus, and Fusion make up most of the averages that allow for the average Mustang to have 420+hp, and for a top of the line GT500 to have 662hp. For the GT500 to avoid the GG tax was huge for them, not only in marketing but in their overall passenger car averages. If they can make it so the Mustang can basically average itself to CAFE standards then they have just freed up so much space for other potential vehicles. For instance, maybe with the 4cyl Mustang they are able to get something like 32mpg average. With that changing the average and accounting for a bulk of Mustang sales they can now offer a Focus RS that gets 27mpg average vs the 30 something the other Focuses do. And on top of that maybe they are able to bump the rumored next 550hp Mustang to 600hp because at 600hp it gets one less mpg than at 550.

This is the value of having a fuel efficient offering across the board. We should be begging for a hybrid option honestly.

It is time to stop clinging on the past. Shelby did nothing on the 2013 GT500. Only the name that he collected royalties on.

You can thank the following people {SVT}for the 2013 GT500:

Jamal Hameedi Chief Engineer
Matt Todd Special Vehicle Team (SVT) Powertrain Engineer at Ford Motor Company
Tom Reichenbach SVT Vehicle Engineering Manager, Mustang Shelby GT 500 at Ford Motor Company
Lawrence Parets - Product Design and Release Engineer For SVT at Ford Motor Company
Andy Slankard - Ford Racing Engineering Supervisor at Ford Motor Company; SVT Engineer & Program Manager
Gerry Silka - Engineer Ford SVT at Ford SVT Engineer/Roush
Tad Ohtake - SVT Chassis Engineering Supervisor
Todd Gray - Design and release engineer within Ford's SVT (Special Vehicle Team
Brad Lammers - SVT Powertrain Systems Engineer at Ford Motor Company; Lead Engineer on GT500
Ryan Delaney - VT Body & Electrical Engineering Supervisor
Jeff Sholtz - SVT Body Engineering

And the list goes on. ..

The list does go on. The GT500 would NOT be around if it were not for Carroll Shelby. Period. To not include him is an insult to Shelby American.

The GT500 would not existed without SVT. SVT engineered the entire car. Shelby American didn't engineer anything on the car at all.

Lol, way to twist that one all up. My point was, 4 cylinder mustangs did NOT help them avoid a bail out. Everything else did.

There is nothing to twist up? Ford avoided the bailout by selling off a lot of things. Many if they had a 4 cylinder mustang they wouldnt have had to use the trademark rights to the blue oval for collateral for loans.
