Very Nice truck....you optioned it out like I would have......3500, short bed, manual, laramie, cab lights but I really liked the Black Gold color offered that year the best.

Did your new clutch slow down your shift times a lot?

Did you go from having a pretty slick shifting truck into something that's more lethargic and equipment like? Kinda took the fun out of it?

Honest opinion please because Ive already had a fully built auto and a dual disk'd NV5600 so and am on the fence about what to get this time around.

Thanks

There are pros and cons to the clutch.. I'll be completely honest with my response to this..

I have the DD3250 which is South Bend's "Street" dual disk. It's a sprung hub style clutch with a design that is suppose to quiet down the rattle. I'm running their updated hydraulics as well. The pedal effort is heavier than stock, but nothing excessive. There is no "chatter" or "shutter" (think Big Spec single disk). The engagement is surprisingly smooth.. similarly to my Mcleod RXT.

I've noticed that going from Reverse to First sometimes results in a "notch" -- The Clutch is disengaging completely for sure, but there may be still a bit of drag that I can't really explain.

The Gear roll over that comes with the non Dual Mass flywheel along with the G56 transmission is probably the most noticeable downfall. At normal shift RPM there is an audible gear roll over noise from the transmission that is supposedly normal. This typically comes in during the 3rd to 4th shift, sometimes 5th and sometimes 6th. If you run the RPMS up a bit higher than what I would consider normal there is no roll over. It's all in the frequency of vibrations that come from the engine at lower rpm I suppose. I've had this clutch in an 07 with a G56 and it was identical. For me, this isn't a huge deal, but is definitely a level of NVH that some may not be able to deal with.

I can say that other than going from first to reverse or visa versa that the duration between shifts isn't really a big deal. I don't try to speed shift the truck but there isn't an obvious delay with normal driving.

I ordered the truck with a G56 knowing the direction I was going and knowing that I would never spend the money on a built automatic. I enjoy driving a straight shift which I suppose is really what it comes down to.

Beautiful truck. James at RSD is the man. Good choice!

Thank You! James was pretty supportive during the whole process.

Badass truck! I'm about to delete the dpf in my CRD and get a GDE tune, however that only results in around 450 tq haha.

Sweet! My wife is wanting a newer grand cherokee diesel and I was looking at an ecodiesel but damn... $50k for a jeep?

what do you mean by "gear roll over"?

The G56 transmission introduced in 2007 is simply noisy without the dual mass flywheel. At low RPM situations under load the transmission has what most refer to as a gear roll over condition -- not sure whether this is the gears slightly binding up, the aluminum housing distorting or what but it happens and its considered normal.

Any plan for studs or a WG in the near future? I know that's what's keeping me from running a more aggressive tune on mine.

Yep.. I plan to add head studs pretty soon.. waste gate isn't in the plan. Boost is peaking at 36psi.. not sure where drive pressure is at.

Thanks man...YOU SUCK!!! My wife had finally talked me into giving up my '06 Silverado 1500 that I had ordered with 5sp, 4.8 & 4.10 gears (last year for GM stick trucks) for a new automatic GM 1/2 ton...
But now I might just have to bite the bullet and get a Cummins Ram!! The only full size manual shift truck on the market!

I know its been asked before, but how "slick shifting" is your G56?
My wimpy NV3500 shifts almost like a car trans, where my Dad's NV4500 shifts more "truck" like, slow and heavy.

I think mine does that too if the noise is the same im thinking about. Noisey but hey, it works fine and its FUN!!

Get a new one while you still can, they have de-tuned the manuals with 200tq less then the auto's and offer no cost savings on the msrp so I can see it going away soon. Too bad you didn't spring for the Duramax/ ZF-6 speed manual Silverado back in 2006, that combo can rip it up with just a tune. That was a really good manual and the best year for the Duramax engine. You might not be looking for a new truck if you had. :D

Here's a dealership that has great deals on new Cummins, like $35k! A lot of dealers will match prices so its worth a look.

White 4wd long bed $35k

It's been a few years since I drove a manual diesel truck. It's a romantic idea to have one, but I'm not sure I'd actually want to own a new one at this point. That being said, I nearly bought one about a month ago. Tough to reconcile my feelings on that one.

Haha exactly, that's why I paid $18k for an older one that will hold it's value. Best DD I've ever had and the first one that I have not had any thoughts of trading for something else.
