Ford needs to at least make the magnetic suspension an option for the GT500. that's the one thing the ZL1 has over it.

You know what would be sweet? If Ford Performance developed an package for all the prior GT500s that would equip them with the Magnaride. I'd love to throw that in the mix but I bet it would be insanely expensive.

The Lamborghini is 4K lbs...

I don't know much about expensive super cars, but isn't the lambo AWD? Thats a whole new ball game vs a 750 hp 4000 lb rwd. Maybe the next generation will impress me if ford makes it out of aluminum or composite.

Are you speaking of the GT out of al or co? I think Ford did just that and it's under 3k lbs.

I'm just stating that many high horsepower vehicles today are 4K lbs even expensive ones.

Remember, the Hellcat will be a player in this game. The 2018 Kitty is expected to be an all new car, some 500+ pounds lighter and crossing 800 HP. Now, that, if true, will be a tough cat.

That might not be a good idea long term. Repairing aluminum and composite is a whole new ball game compared to steel. Body shops have to be certified to do that kind or repair I don't think that will bode well for us DIY types. I imagine any major welding on an aluminum chassis could be a nightmare worrying about keeping the chassis straight warping would be a huge problem.

Remember the mustang was supposed to be 200lbs lighter some said up to 400lbs lighter and it turned out to be heavier.

It's not as big of a deal as you say. There's no real specific certifications required, but Im sure they give the customer ease of mind when it's there. Most customers dont even know their cars have aluminum panels to begin with and even basic vehicles have been using aluminum panels like hoods for years now. So the shop can either do it or they cant. We have one tech that has all the tools for it so he repairs all the F150s and any other car that has more complex damage on an aluminum body. Ultimately, it isn't as bad as people make it out to be, and it is nothing new to the industry. Just becoming more common is all.

The next gen Challenger/Charger is supposed to share it's platform with the Alfa Romeo Giulia which weighs around 3400lbs but I believe that is the euro spec so add on a couple hundred for the US spec. The horsepower figure is just a shot in the dark based wishful thinking.

There are also rumors that when Dodge switches to the new smaller platform they will kill off the Hellcat engine.

The Challenger certainly needs some serious "downsizing" too much pork and wheelbase and never got rave reviews in the rags. Time to get it down to true "E" body proportions. Every person I've talked to who owns one didn't give me the impression they were overenthusiastic about the car even Hellcat owners. Driving my Terminator you couldn't wipe the smile off my face. I hope Dodge does something good with the new Challenger it was disappointing the car is such a Moose :nonono:

I get a box full of car magazines each month. A recent one had in it's future possibilities a higher HP Hellcat on the new Alfa Romeo frame which kept the interior dimensions of the car about the same but dropped 500+ pounds. Car and Driver I think.

The frame is 500lbs less than the dodge frame or the entire alpha is 500 lbs less than the HC?

500lbs less than a Hellcat would still make it 50lbs heavier than my 08 GT500!:lol1:
i remember someone weighing a new 08 w/ nav at just about 3800.

if Ford produces a GT500 under 4000 lbs with 750 HP, beefy IRS, magnetic ride, 10-speed auto (optional) and it can actually hook, then they may get my attention.

is that unrealistic to expect? I don't think so.
