Took a trip to Mexico with a bunch of other cars. This is the first time that I have done any type of "street" racing in Mexico, and I am still an inexperienced driver (i.e. desperate need of driver mod). I did two races against a C6 Corvette and a S550 5.0. I was rolling deep with three friends in the car. The first race I got slayed hard. We started off at around a 60mph roll. I was in 3rd gear which is probably a no-no and forgot to turn my traction control off. After the third honk the S550 and Corvette pulled out ahead of me like crazy. They were about 4-5 car lengths ahead of me when "I" let out at around 120mph. We looped around on the highway. On our way back to the meet the three of us lined back up. This time I turned off the traction control and again downshift to 3rd gear. The second race was another 60mph roll. After the third honk the S550 and Corvette pulled out ahead of me again but not as bad. They still had about 1-2 car lengths on me before "I" let out at around 120mph.

What the Drivers Told Me On What They Have Done To Their Cars
S550 5.0: E85, CAI, Tune
Corvette (Base): Headers, CAI, Tune

Damn. I need some driving practice for Mexico. Should I be in 2nd gear for this roll race?

2nd gear for sure, assuming you have stock 3.31's?

Do you remember what rpms you were turning at 60 in 3rd? It's been so long since I've driven mine I don't remember.

13COBRA- I honestly can't remember what my RMP was. If I had to guess maybe 3-3.5K. What RPM range do you think I need to be in when starting the race? I would assume something in the middle to be able to ride that gear a little before shifting.

One of my friends filmed the first race on his phone. Am I allowed to post the video on this topic?

Rule No. 1: never play around in Mexico with 3 friends in the car (that's at least 450 extra pounds)

Rule No. 2: Ideally you want to be no more than 2500 rpm from your shift-point. (1st in a 2014 runs to 66 mph and you were in 3rd at 60 :bash:

Rule No. 3: See Rule 1

A 2014 is already a very conservatively geared car so being in the wrong gear KILLS you.

Also, put the Advanced Track into Sport Mode (double-tap tc button with foot on brake pedal). Don't even think about running to 7k to shift, 6400-6700 is the sweet spot.

Yep, While you were slaughtered. It is nice you came to the forum to post so we can give you some tips. 60mph roll. I do that in my 09 GT500 in 2nd gear where the gears are shorter for 3.31s already. I am rocking 3.73s. So if that tells you how much you gave up. It really is quite a lot. In my 2013 GT500 its all stock and the way you took off in 3rd with that much weight I guarantee you my stock 13 GT500 would of pulled you. If you have good tires and stock gearing. You for sure 100% need to be in 2nd gear for 40-70mph rolls. If our cars didnt get the relentless 1-2 grind/lockout I would even say 40mph 1st gear is needed. These are my opinions though. I have also done tons and tons of roll racing. Take it as constructive criticism and not bashing. Just trying to help ya bud :p Have a great day! Hope you get em next time!

Spot on but I think all you really need to do for sport mode is have your foot on the brake pedal and double tap the traction control button with launch control off. You don't need to be stopped or using the parking brake.

Good runs - and practice makes perfect.

As stated above, wrong gear. However, when you're in 2nd, and you hit it, be ready to steer a little bit to keep the car straight because you WILL light the tires up, unless you roll into the throttle. You should walk both those cars without much issue. Hell you make close to 200whp more than the S550.

Experienced driver/street racer, makes ALL the difference.

Never start the race with RPMs below 4k.
Always race with the least amount of weight (no passengers or one at most)
Never race with traction control on.

Lets see the video!

With the mods in your sig there is no way those cars are within 200whp of yours. Ask them to take another trip to Mexico and slap them with a 2nd gear pull.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I really appreciate the experience that is being shared to me. Even though I got my butt kicked it was SO much FUN.

I had NO idea about the "Sport Mode" and how to activate it. What does that mode do?

Apologies for the video quality. My buddy was in the back seat using his iPhone.

No problems, I had to double check to make sure I was doing it right.

Your car should have come with a GT500 supplement in addition to the manual. If you don't have it, do a google search and you'l be able to find a pdf file to download. It tells you all about the different modes and how to get into them.
The long and the short is the car has multiple 'nannies' to help the driver stay in control. The different modes have varying levels of traction and stability control. I don't know you so don't take offense but be very careful just turning all that shit off. Don't be one of those knuckleheads on youtube who got silly with his 700 rwhp car.

More seat time, you did all those power mods without addressing traction? Lol

Well in your case who needs traction when you are starting a roll race from a higher gear at the wrong rpm? :nonono:

You were probably lugging an additional 500lbs worth of passenger. Next time shove one of your passengers into the vette and the other into the S550 and then try again. I don't think I could even operate the car properly with a full sized adult sitting behind me.
