Guess the next step will be carrying pouches of rocks to stone people when they commit a crime:eek:

Unbelievable!!!
Trade in your turban for caps like the rest of American police departments.
I understand wanting to represent your heritage and all, but do that on your own time, not on the people's taxes, which pay your salary. Unbelievable the goons in power would let this pass.

I don't really see the big deal here. As long as the shield is represented on the turban I'm good.

In Canada the RCMP has allowed turbans for over a quarter century, 1990 to be precise.
As long as the shield is there I have no problem with it.
We have a good sized Sikh community here in Montreal.
Good family oriented people.

But don’t allow a Christian symbol to be seen anywhere, by golly!

I have to disagree with the NYPD on this one. Religion has no place in police work. They are not wearing those turbans for medical reasons or for disability reasons. The police are public servants and as such they are not supposed to proselytize or allow their religious beliefs to be a part of their public persona. As a police officer I have a real problem with this. I would have just as much of a problem with a Jewish Officer wearing a Yamaka. We had a Catholic officer show up to work last year with an ash cross on his forehead on ash Wednesday and he was told to wash it off. Religion has no place in public service.

Jewish members of the NYPD have been allowed to wear a Yarmulke for decades.

Disagree. Assimilate or get out.

This African-American, Muslim-American, Mexican-American bullshit has to stop. You're either American or not.
What is an American?
I guess you can't discern the difference between ethnicity and religion?

The first amendment of the US Constitution guarantees them the right to practice their religion .

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"

Your Constitution and our Charter of Rights and Freedoms is what diferentiates our countries from many others

Will not be a good PR move with what's going on in the world today.

Doesnt matter if it's 'right' or not...

I believe something like this happened in the Army a few years ago.

In my eyes a uniform is a uniform. When you signed up you signed up to wear a cover/cap/hat of said branch/organization. The reason we have uniforms is simple, UNIFORMITY!!!!

I guess I'll start a religion where I can wear red shoes in my Navy dress blues.

You have a pretty disgusting view of Skihs and you probably have no idea what it even means. Your ignorance is unbridling.

Read this article OP:
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...ouble-with-wearing-turbans-in-america/384832/

I read the article and it doesn't change my opinion . This topic is about Sikhs been allowed to wear turbans and quite frankly I really don’t care about the history and position of the Sikhs.

Every single applicant knows the uniform code when they apply or sign up for the job. I for one, am sick and tired of people signing up and then demanding changes. Nobody tricked anybody into the job.

Remember back in the day when America actually had traditions and understood the meaning of a simple word like, 'uniform'? I believe in diversity, but this is getting out of hand! This country is too busy accommodating foreigners and their religious rights! I'm glad there are no religions who are opposed to the colour red, otherwise we would be changing our flag for them.
