Duke Nukem

Castle Wolfenstein

Diablo

Going into Diablo and not even playing - just chatting with people. Public games that some random wizard would show up and kill you and steal all your stuff

I still remember being spooked by "AHHHH fresh meat"

I recognized it even without it's name being displayed across the bottom of the screen. Spent many hours on the Atari 2600 as a kid trying to win it.

I remember going over to a friend's house who was lucky enough to have a PC (commodore 64) and playing a game called "Chiller" (Michael Jackson Thriller spoof) on cassette tape. Game took like 45 minutes to 1 hour to load from cassette. He also had a game on tape called Stroker Ace LOL. Anyone else remember that game?? Required an Atari joystick and a very steady "Hand" lol........ Or using a hole punch to make a floppy double sided. Broke my dad's space bar on his Apple IIe running to throw the Javelin on Olympic Decathalon...

My dad recognized that computers were the future back in the 70's and was always into them so we had early iterations of network connections even if they weren't very useful at the time.

I remember the first time we got DSL. A buddy of mine and I downloaded the first South Park episode in 20 minutes and were blown away by the speeds. I just tracked that episode down and downloaded it in 13 seconds lol.

I remember it well:

US Robotics 14.4 external modem, Netscape Navigator browser with image icon place holders that would slowly fill in, PPP (Point to Point Protocol) to University, Telnet BBS (bulletin board system), ICQ messenger, a 9 MB game patch would take the entire night to download (if it didn't fail), always modifying the autoexec.bat and config.sys files to squeeze out every last drop of memory for PC games to run.

Good times. :D
