There were some on my car when I bought it, not a fan.

Thread

I haven't seen a lot of examples of people doing this (on any car), but there is a beautiful dark grey S550 I see at my gym with white lettering on his tires, and it have to say it looks great. He's actually done a really nice job with all his exterior mods.

Based on the google pics i'm seeing, though, I don't think it would look good on these cars.

The only car I've liked them on was a blue Mustang on here.

@13COBRA that looks surprisingly good. I would have never thought the yellow letters on blue paint would go together.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the guy in that thread posted tons of pics where the raised lettering looked horrible on other cars. Guess you really have to have the perfect setup to get it to look right...

I was going to say I think I've seen a newer yellow Mustang running around here with yellow lettering on his tires. I think it looks good if you're going for a race car inspired theme on your GT or V6, but I'm not sure colored lettering would look good on a Cobra.

Now maybe, and that's just maybe, some redlines or bluelines "might" look good on a Cobra, but it would depend on the color of the car, style of wheels and other visual mods.

And I agree, in the 70's and 80's the white raised lettered tires were all the rage back then. I even had them on my 77 Ford Granada for a while LOL. Don't think I've rocked those since 1987 though. Not looking to resurrect the look either :D........... Even my 65 rocks blackwalls, although I would consider redlines since it's a 60's car and has a Laser Red paint job.

^^ I was thinking the same thing. Seems to work well if a car has a very aggressive "race" theme. I think the size of the tire profile also makes a huge difference.

The ricers here have glued on letters that like to fall off and they put like Toyo or Michelin on a pos $20 dollar tire.

Damn, this one's going over like a turd in a punch bowl lol

It's your car, do what you like. I personally am not a fan of the white lettering. But....to each their own, hell, I got blasted in the pics n vids section because my CCW center caps are etched "SVT". Comments like "SVT is sooooo played out.....it's everywhere on the car.....those look terrible....". I love them and have been rock'n them for 8 years lol

Yeah it's a tough crowd round here at times.

Honestly I wasn't committed to painting the tires. The two S550's I've seen looked great, so I wanted to see if there were any examples on our cars.

My original thought was to play with some dark red lettering. I may still do a quick mock-up paint job on one side of the car (with paint or some type of stencil that can be removed easily), just to feed my curiosity.

If I do, i'll post some pics, that way we can sh** all over how ricer it looks together... lol

Fist off, don’t paint them... you’ll be fighting the brown bleed indefinitely. Tires have oil in them that will come up through the paint.

I dig the raised white letter look and put them on my Shelby. This is obviously an appearance mod and quite subjective (not everyone’s taste). My GT500 has white stripes that I wanted to tie in elsewhere. Plus I dig the “old school” muscle car look. I have the glue-on letters that I’ve speed tested to 145 and I didn’t need to buy a vowel afterwards. If applied properly, they are permanent and will never turn brown due to oils seeping through.

I bought letters for 2 different tire sets here:

Now, if I could only find Mystichrome letters! :p

I think it looks good, Goose!

A lot of folks are picky about the ext mods they like. Nothing wrong with it, but when everyone follow's a typical path for modding, we get a bunch of cars that look like every other on the street.

As for me, I don't mind going against the grain...

This.

I am a fan if there is enough sidewall - which today's cars do not have.

Cars from the 60s/70s/80s generally had a 15 inch wheel maximum and a fat sidewall, so it looked good.

You need a minimum 55 series tire or it looks like poo.

After browsing images, I've decided that

A) my red lettering idea doesn't look good on anything I've seen

B) white lettering looks great, but only on certain applications, and only if it's a Nitto tire.

I think these cars did it perfect. Most of the other cars i saw look like s*** though

No way, I think those giant letters look dumb. Hell I took paint thinner to m/t slicks to get the lettering off. In my mind those companies don’t pay me to rep their stuff, in fact it’s the opposite.
I got one sticker on my car in the quarter window and that’s the shop that I worked/work for and that has done me huge favors.
