So are you implying that Mustang Week doesn't have an economic impact?
I can tell you, from hearing directly from senior members of the Horry County government that A) they don't want it here and B) the money it brings in isn't even a blip on the radar. Not my words. Hotels are being rented, food bought and some other stuff. Those things were going to happen anyways. The proof? The MW rooms are rented out months in advance, because people know that it would be booked if they waited last minute. If Horry Co and/or MB wanted you here or cared about you, you'd notice by the treatment

I get what you're saying and I don't have the option of hearing it from the horse's mouth like you do, but your "proof" isn't exactly proof. I'm not saying you're wrong, every single one of those rooms could have been filled without MW; but saying that the rooms being booked months in advance of a huge influx of people is a definitive sign that the rooms would be booked without that influx of people is not a sound argument.

I'm sure I'm not doing a good job of getting my point across, I promise I'm not challenging you or your word. I believe what you said the county officials said.

I have tickets and am generally not hard to find. That Pink Floyd Laser show sounds pretty good.

Fine by me, we need more big events like Mustang Week in the Midwest. Best I can hope for most years is the Hot Rod Power Tour swinging through the area.

I'd like to do something at Heartland Park.

The country music fest comes to mind.

He's correct. Certain individual businesses directly related to the event have a good week, but in general there would still be a ton of people in anyway. We're getting into CanAm season.

no problem and I understand what you're saying. I just find it funny that a group of visitors that rent a room, eat food and buy gas think that they will hurt a tourist city by not doing those things - in summer - at a beach with 18.6 million annual visitors. lol

Personally, I liked the format it had in the first 7 or so years, because it was out of the city limits, but a lot of well earned negative attention ruined that. can't really blame the mall for not wanting people there, at some point they would have gotten dragged into a lawsuit with all those wrecks.
I live in Myrtle Beach, but ask any local and most will say they do their best to stay out of the city limits. Truth is, those arrest that got people upset, that's how MBPD ALWAYS ACT and treat people. The only thing i go into MB for is costco. I go to Murrells Inlet for fine dining, NMB to shop and Conway for the country gals and shooting. Columbia for Gamecocks Football and Lake City for southern cooking. MB could fall into the ocean for all I care.

There are a couple in my ao. The Mid America meet in Tulsa, Ok. They have road racing and drag racing and is geared toward those event. Shelbyfest in Jefferson City, Mo. They offer auto cross but is more focused on country cruises and just getting together with friends once a year. Neither one are a week long and generally the police are tolerant as long you keep it down.

I'm up for an STPV Deal's Gap / Tail of the Dragon meet.

If my straight line Hayabusa could handle it, a Mustang can.

Can you imagine the exhaust echoing off of the mountain walls?

I'm not 100% sure how strict NC & VA vehicle laws are. One positive of a convertible is that I can roll all four windows down and drop the top to quickly hide my tint. There's not much I can do about the exhaust or clear corner headlights. The tinted tag plate cover is easily removed.

Ok, I drive a rolling magnet for citations if the wrong officer is having a bad day.

Never been to MB for an event like that, but from my experience, all beach cities that attract tourists have cops that crack down harder than usual. They do it so they can keep it a tourist attraction where visitors dont have to worry about themselves or their kids getting hit by a reckless driver, robbed, shot, beat up, or whatnot. Virginia Beach, Oceanside, Huntington, etc all have heavy police presence to make sure people can go there and have fun without incident. Just my .02 cents.

A police presence is welcomed. Citations given for laws broken are expected. I am hearing about, and finding videos for arrests that make little to no sense in my mind.

There is a fine line, a balance point if you will. The officers are following orders. Right now I am seeing orders designed to bring in revenue, not suppress crime.

I hope I am wrong.

I agree that some of these sound overboard in their response but I have seen similar done in Virginia Beach. They make sure no wrong doing ever gets a foot-hold there.

Carlisle could be an option, but I love the Deals Gap idea. Not sure if there is a fairground or campground close enough to handle all of the Mustangs, and I don't know if they have enough hotel rooms available in the imediate area for those who don't camp.

Glad to see i'm not the only one in this train of thought.

I truly feels it's evident they aren't so keen on Bike Week and Mustang Week any longer. The beaches suck, the town sucks in general, and in comparison to a lot of other automotive destination cities, it sucks.

Partly why I suggested Mooresville/Charlotte area. You're talking about tracks, race shops, vendors, lakes, major metropolitan city, but also country nearby. It kind of all flows out and the density of mustangs wouldn't be 6 million every square mile.

Families could hit up the lack with a rental, singles could rent near downtown/major mall area/clubs. Setup all the events at different vendors lots (most are huge). You've got Charlotte motor speed way and Zmax, you've got historic mooresville dragway.. not to mention everybody from the mayor to the country trash guy is into cars. Nothing like going a buck twenty down a backroad, and seeing a sheriff and he throws you the thumbs up.
