A "friend" may or may not have cats and has never received a letter after driving through a RapidScreen in CO...

I'm not sure how aggressive the screeners are in reality. I only heard about them because a buddy of mine got called out by the screeners. He was also driving an unregistered cooper mini (original, right hand drive from England passed down from his grandmother--he just inherited the car and was getting it put back together to register the car). So perhaps the fact he didn't have a tag yet was the real reason, but the car was also egregiously beyond the limits of permissible emissions.

So they use grant money to fund the increase in cops looking out for loud exhausts? Then the state takes that 1k into their pocket, free of charge?

Im waiting to see what enforcement is like out here before I commit to making any changes. I have long tubes, no cats and magnaflows right now and its uhh, loud. Its been raining for the last couple of weeks so I wont be driving for a month or two anyways.

The last time they passed a law that was similar (modified exhausts have technically been illegal here for years), enforcement was really high for a couple of months and then gradually slacked off, to the point you would only get a ticket for it if you were already speeding and the cop was in a particularly bad mood.

Wonder if anything with a cat delete would fail that sniffer? Even if properly tuned

Uh yeah, not even close to passing.

FWIW, my 03 with even high-flow cats failed sniffer, even with a guy underneath with a blowtorch trying to heat them up.

There is no other way around folks, to afford their liberal progressive agenda, somebody has to pay. Just move to real America and avoid those stupid laws.

Its getting to that point, but goddamn, I ****ing hate the idea that people have ****ed up a place where I was born and raised, that all my friends and family are, to the point where I have to be the one that moves. Its infuriating to think of, but its the likely endgame of it all. Every day I read more and more how this state is continually making my life harder and harder. But even then, every place has its cons, my best friend in Fate, TX says he still has to do inspections and obdII checks so it prevents him from chopping his exhaust off.

Yeah 2000+ is OBD2 only. Pretty easy actually.

I didn't know they changed the new car rule from 7 to 9 years. Good to know but be wary that there are exceptions to that!

Bought my 2016 Ram 2500 diesel brand new in Feb of 2016 and had to smog it last year for tag renewal. Im hoping it's because it was diesel but who the hell knows.

Guess we'll see when I get Mustang tag renewal in the next month or so.

I had to get my 2015 F250 smogged in 2017 because it's a diesel. According to the guy at the shop it's because of all the coal rolling asshats.

The wife and I are pretty much the same way. We're in driving distance to most of the family we'd want to see. But unless one of us gets an extremely large raise in the next 4 or so years we'll be on our way out of the state. Either way we're definitely not retiring here.

This.

San Antonio is looking mighty fine, though.

you'd be surprised. I could get an old fox body to pass without cats. I think the timing was retarded to something stupid like 5 degrees BTDC and took the fuel pressure way down.

Say when. Seriously, just waiting for that order when we can really take back America.

Power went out the other day and coincidentally my phone screen timed out. Immediately thought it was the EMP to end it all, got all excited for the impending liberal purge. Screen turned back on. I am dissapoint.

Just wait until they completely prohibit the sale of all non-OEM equipment that affects emissions or sound. Vendors will not even be legally able to ship their products to the state.

That day will come. Stripping your freedoms away, one stupid little law/regulation at a time.
We arent far off from that. Some companies will not ship anything to CA already because they have faced lawsuits from CARB. I have been turned down the shipments of a few car parts and of some gun parts over the past couple years.

Remember guys,.......they can pull you over if your exhaust is too loud. Has nothing to do with the sniffer test UNTIL AFTER you get pulled over and fined. Has nothing to do with a sniffer test at first. They're looking for modded and loud exhausts.
Then they can send you to the state ref after getting fined and then you're screwed if your vehicle is modded bigly. It has to go back to stock, so hopefully a lot of these guys have their OEM parts.
I think it's an atrocity!!! So, in other words,......EVERYONE with a fast looking/sounding vehicle is AUTOMATICALLY guilty.
STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!

I ordered cats from Magnaflow for my Expedition and I had to have them sent to my grandparents place in Az.
