High horsepower (let's say 700+) guys; do you ever regret it?

Had to check if this was a new or old thread. I remember a few people in the past have said about 600-700hp was the most fun and usable. Beyond that, you have more upkeep, maintenance, costs and an unusable amount of power thus the amount of fun is less.

Never had the joy of owning a modern car with lots of power and reliability. Have a Vortech 1996 Cobra with everything but a bottom end build. Fun car but reliability is always in the back of your mind. Current DD is an R53 Mini converted water to air, pullied the blower, did some chassis stiffening, coilovers, wheels and tires. That car is an absolute BLAST to drive every day. It's like being fitted with rocket skates. I've pretty much maxed out the injectors and constantly have to talk myself out of crossing that factory tune threshold in the quest for a little more power.

pretty much...I have buddy around 1300 RWHP...he's been thru several transmissions (rebuilt the 6spd auto 3 times) and now has 6060 with mantic triple disk. He's on his 2nd built motor and has had to refresh that one once after a run at the Texas invitational (spun bearing)..He's also had the turbos off several times to rebuild. When he was around 800 RWHP on a PD blower, he didn't have too many issues...

Honestly, yes, I over built a car in the past that just wasn't streetable afterwards. I regretted it. Now when I build my rides, I try not to over do it and keep them streetable.

i have a friend that Zach knows, he will buy a mustang and build it to 1300 or so rwhp. Starts out small, blower kit etc. And it always snowballs into a low 8 second car. and as soon as he gets it to 1200+ he sells it. why? because It does rolling burnouts at 100mph with ET street R's and there is literally only a handful of people in the state that could run with him. Its kinda boring if you can beat everyone. shit even in a 700hp car there are few cars you will come across that will stay close

Coyote? Stock oil clearances or did he have looser bearings?

G&G Performance Engines is the go to for machine work.

I use them for my machine work and do the assembly myself, but they are great at assembly too.

G&G out in Tomball? I have never had a problem with West Side Machine in the past, but after the **** up on my buddies motor, it's always good to know about some other shops.

That's the one.

Little hole in the wall, but damn good work and they know everything from small blocks to modern LS, JDM, and Modular.

Joe and his brother do superb work. Now, they are a bit back country and don't deal with stupid very well, but you can't let that get in the way.

That's pretty much why I've given up the HP chase. Yes my fox needs paint/body work, and I have some more suspension plans, but in terms of more HP...I'm done. It made 517 going a little lean, so we backed it off a little. To shoot for 600 I would have to go with a different block, more fuel, etc. That's a lot of money for just a little more. I'm not chasing any certain ET, in fact I don't care about ETs. I just enjoy cruising in a fast car.

500+RWHP is loads of fun in a Fox, that’s a bantam weight compared to S197/S550..

Without a doubt!

I had a 1990 coupe that had a simple H/C/I and a single 66mm turbo that made 550/585 SAE RWHP. That car was an absolute blast. I could brake-boost 10psi in second gear at 40 mph and the car would flat leave.
