I haven’t seen this. That was an utterly poor decision on behalf of the trooper.

He was ordered to pit the guy based on chase length and where chase was headed. He just got to deep into him with the speeds being so high.

What was he being chased for?
Looks like a poorly executed pit. Either way, it the Dukes of Hazard music in the background

You do not pit at those speeds.... the video is a good illustration as to why. Being ordered to pit is fine, but when it’s and opportune time.

I think they were headed into a more populated area, but that is speculation on my part. The driver certainly wasn't slowing down. I'm glad he died and not a SUV full of kids being T-boned when he blew a light at 100+.

I'm confused...did you even watch the entire video? The only time the truck was going slower than 90mph was the time or two that he brake checked the lead officer. So how was he supposed to pit the guy at lower speeds?

I'm sure it was a wild ride but the officer's hand was forced as soon as the guy escalated his aggressiveness by driving into oncoming traffic. My biggest question is why didn't he start getting on the brakes once he had the guy flipped over?

I’d side with TK’s professional opinion on this one. TK is in law enforcement and has been for 20+ years.

yes, you are confused.
If the vehicle does not slow to a safe speed to pit, then you do not pit. As I said before, this video illustrates exactly why. The trooper is very lucky he wasn’t killed too. I stand by my statement, very poor decision.

I've this same thing happen in online videos.
Out of curiosity, what IS a safe speed to pit?

There were units that got ahead of him, but I never saw any stop sticks deployed. Maybe the speed of the violator made it to dangerous to try.

TK is right. I sent this to my two friends who are LE and they said the same thing. You don't want to crash anything at those speeds, and max speed you would perform a pit maneuver is like 50mph.

I think the way he was blowing through the lights really influenced their decision to act when they did.

I guess they should have just called off the pursuit and let the guy go. If they can't pit then continuing to follow him at 90+mph is just asking for a bystander to get killed with the way he was blowing through red lights and driving into oncoming traffic.

Either way, **** the guy in the truck. World is better off without him.

I'd like an honest LE answer to this as well...because I have no idea?
What would have been the "right" thing to do in this situation?
