Interest rates are at an absolute all time low. There is no reason to pay cash for something right now, period. Let your money work for you in a positive way, rather than as a depreciating asset.

The RST is a nice truck. Especially with the 6.2
I really like the ZR2 lately.

Same. Looks good to me. While 90% of Raptor/TRX owners won't bother going offroad I sort of wish the ZR2 was an official 3rd party to the offroad party.

It's giving up 5 inches of travel front and rear. But for a DD/most offroad paths it seems like a cool truck

The only off-roading I will be doing is when I drive over dirt on the street/highway. LOL

Still loving the Ram trucks too though. But, their big boy truck is almost 100K and my gas bill would be probably half of the monthly payment per month. No thanks. Would love to, but that is one thirsty truck.
Just browsing for now anyways. Gotta see what kind of damage the stupids running the Country do to our economy first. #FJB

I think this is probably the BIGGEST contributing factor.
How the **** can people be so short-sighted? I mean, at some point you're going to have to pay your bills. What are they thinking?!?!?! This is the exact reason I hate the discussion of forgiving student loan debt. When I went to college I sat down and figured out tuition and fees after my scholarships were added in, then figured out how much I would need to pay the rest of the tuition bill and books. Graduated with debt but paid it off long ago. It can be done but you've got to make the right choices. I feel like people don't give a shit anymore. They just make poor choices and hope for bailouts.

I don't even think they hope for bailouts. They just don't look any further down the road than their next meal.

Our society has made it too easy to just survive.

both of these things

I went to college, started in 2010 right after I graduated high school.

Lost my scholarships essentially immediately (cuz I didnt want to go to school but parents made me or I had to move out lolol)

I knew what I was doing at 18 signing for $30,000 in loans.

Paid them back, yeah that sucked. But its part of adulting.

My brother, went to college starting in 2012, and he's all about the bailout. He deferred his loans the maximum amount, then starting paying the minimum, and the second the stuff came out about Covid relief / putting payments on hold, he called up and got them to apply that to his account.

So he can eat out 5 days a week, he's bought 6 different vehicles in the past year and a half.

Two kinds of people......

There definitely are.. I don't exactly know where it comes from either.

Back when I was like 12 or something we went to the race track and my mom gave me and my sister each $20 for concessions. I bought some candy and saved the rest, my sister ended up going back to my mom for more money that night and then again for the next night.

My uncle caught wind of it and laughed "you give Austin $5, he will spend $0.50 and save $4.50. Give his sister $5 and she will spend $10 and come back asking for $20." For whatever reason it only seems natural for me to operate like that and for her to do the same. I can't imagine how fast she would rip through my life savings if I gave it to her and told her to "save it for retirement." It probably wouldn't last a month.

Any advice on buying a used car in this market or should we just wait it out? My wife started a new job recently and drives hundreds of miles per day and I would like to get her something newer and more fuel efficient.

We shopped the last 3 weekends and the experience was horrible. She wants either an Accord or Insight with around 30k miles or less. Even used, they're priced around original MSRP.

Tried to buy a certified Insight with 13k miles and was willing to pay original MSRP and at the very last minute was told there's a "Dealer accessories fee" of $2,500 on every new car, used car or ordered car. No negotiation. Essentially floor mats and nitrogen filled tires. 2 separate trips the dealership and 4hrs of our time and that never came up in conversation.

Every dealer in my area has these same sort of fees and it is frustrating. Not to mention, used cars of good condition are few and far between.

Carvana seems more and more attractive at this point but I'm not sure I can trust the condition of the cars.

which is the main factor - saving money on fuel or reliability the concern in wanting in her something newer? If it's fuel thats pretty simple math

For this reason I gave up the lightly used search and did something I thought I would NEVER do...ordered a brand new car.

Got a 2022 Accord Sport 2.0T in platinum white for my wife for like $1k more than used ones are going for that have 30k miles on them. Should be here next week...by the way, anyone who wants a gas saving but fun'ish DD, those cars are secretly awesome.

They almost make as much at the wheels as they advertise at the crank ;)

She has an 8-year-old Nissan Rogue now with a hair under 100k miles. It's been flawless in that time, and fuel isn't bad for what it is. But we're now talking around 4k miles per month so reliability, especially the cvt could start to come into play very soon.

I would start worrying about it once it actually shows symptoms. The CVT shouldnt go bad from one day to another, at least that wasnt the case with my friends car.

Used car market wont settle for a while like how it was. As someone posted, best bet is to order a new car or just wait it out the most you can. Prices have been decreasing every month.
