so i went to the track for the first time 2 weeks ago using my nitto dr's. i didn't do too bad for my first time out with a best of 12.2 @ 116 with a 1.87 60'. i wasn't satisfied though because i know my car is capable of 11's and i want them REAL BAD!!!

so tonight i went back with a little more knowledge of how i should be launching the car...i made a grand total of 4 passes with a best time of 12.6 @ 116 with a 2.18 60'!!! :fm: i could not get these damn things to hook up to save my life! no matter how low of an rpm i launched at, they would spin all the way into 2nd gear! i can't even spin them in 2nd gear on the street, but for some reason they hate the track :( i had them aired down to 15-16 psi and i tried heating them up the best i could (they don't seem to wanna smoke too much in a burnout :??:)

i absolutely love these tires for the street...but they haven't given me much luck at the track. they have less than 3000 miles on them with a total of 7 track passes.

i have my stock wheels sitting in my barn...what tires could i throw on these that would get me easily into my goal of 11's? someone recommended et streets? should i run a full slick? and what size? any input is helpful, thanks!!!

What gear are you doing your burnout in? If it's first then try 2nd gear and do about an 8 to 10 second burnout. If they aren't smoking then they're not getting hot enough.

This man speaks the truth. If they aren't smoking for atleast 5-10 seconds they aren't hot enough. The tires are better than a regular radial, but definitely the worst of the drag radials as far as traction is concerned. I've seen some people cut 1.7x 60's with them, but not very consistently. OP, you shouldn't be having any issues getting these to smoke, unless you aren't holding the burnout.

Save the Nittos for the street and get a non radial for the track like an MT ET street (DOT slick, not the DR), or just go for the gold and get a set of 15" wheels and a set of ET drag slicks.

A lot of people are scared of slicks and think that they will damage parts. IMO slicks actually are easier on parts then a DR.

The Nitto is a better street tire because it'll last longer than the other drag radials, but since the compund of the tire is a little harder and more durable, it gives up a little bit of performance. So if you think you need a stickier tire get a BFG, M/T, Hoosier, or M&H drag radial and go back to the track, but it still sounds like your burnouts need to get better no matter what DR you end up using.

I think with either the BFG, M/T, M&H or the Hoosier you will get a good tire that will outperform your Nittos by far. My vote goes for the BFG.

the 555r is the best drag radial for the street.

mickey thompson street ets for the track will be great... but i went threw 3 sets in a month on the street. they heat up very quickly and dont cool down. if you drive on harsh roads watch out... you will eat them up quickly.

last time i was at the track my nitto 555r's 315wide hooked up and i broke my half shaft.

what psi are you running your tires at?

i've thought about buying these ------> http://www.jegs.com/i/Mickey+Thompson/672/3743/10002/-1# and buying another set of 17x9 rims

don't you dare buy from jegs...if you need MT tires lmk the guy i bought mine from saved me $40 even from Lethal Performance's prices. You'll just have to come down to one of our True Street Events and pick them up at the track! Then you get to meet J and I WOOHOOO

MT ET Street radials. Do a good 8-10 second burn out to get them good and sticky. I've cut lots of low 1.70's with them leaving easy (no IRS brace) but I'm sure 1.60's are possible.

i am also done with nittos at the track. $430 for two tires and theres no use in even heating them up and burning though tires. youll still cut a 2.0 60ft....

While I think it's obvious Nittos are the least sticky drag radials, it should also be obvious that it won't fix your poor driving. If you think that the best 60' possible with Nittos is a 2.0, then maybe you should try driving better before wasting money thinking it's all the tire. :poke:

i was doing them in 2nd. i'll rev it up, dump the clutch, then grab the brake and hold it for a few, then release the brake and roll out of the box :??:

i have my stock set of wheels sitting in my garage, so i can put some tires on those and swap them out at the track, what size slick would you recommend for the stock cobra wheels?

i had them aired down to about 15-16 psi. would you think a full slick would be better if i brought them on an extra set of wheels to the track with me?

i dunno why you guys have problems. i cut a 1.64 60 foot on 315 nittos. by the sound of it is that some kind of record for a nitto? lol......i was doing 5-6 sec 1st gear burnouts, i also had 25 PSI in them. i think its all in how you launch the car.

If you're going to buy a set of tires just for the track then get a set of 15" rims for the back with a 28x10.5 slick and you'll be set!

+1 all about the launch and the very important driver mod!!!

and i honestly dont know why you guys even go threw the water with drag radials. i just back up a couple feet before the water and let it go for a quick burn out. doing that alone gives me enough rubber to clean for months under my car.

So, let me get htis straight. You do a burnout a couple of feet before the water, then when you're done the burnout you pull through the water before you make a pass? lol

You would be better off just going AROUND the water and doing your burnout AFTER the water instead of driving through a puddle right before you make a pass.
