so youve driven both? probably not so you shouldnt be one making rash statements. also talk to me after your in rush hour traffic for 2 hours.

Thats the one argument I hate more than any other. Its a manual so cowboy the **Edited by moderator**and deal with it, if your legs are that weak that rush hour traffic and a clutch wear them out...... go for a **Edited by moderator, do not circumvent the profanity filter**walk. But those are usualy the same people who bitch about sweating in a hot car with no a/c or saying their back hurts from stiff suspension. Grow a pair or get rid of them and buy an automatic Camry for your commute.

And to the other statement, its always more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow!

Learned how to drive a stick in a '66 Bug.
Stick is soooo much more fun then an auto.
Auto is ok for sipping on your morning coffee while commuting to work...

My current auto 03 is a billion times more fun to drive than my first 03 with the 6 speed.

I love my manual..and will never own a automaitc "fast" car. However, I will say very few times will you see high HP cars beat out a automatic counterpart down the 1320.

I have an auto 02 GT simply because I couldn't pass up the deal given to me by the dealer on this car. Im not conceited enough to pass up an amazing offer on a car just because of the transmission.

Besides, a TC'ed/kitted/geared auto will always beat out a stick with the worlds best driver.

My Camaro is my first auto. There are times where I wish I got a stick but once I stall it I wont worry about that too much...

I think either option is good depending on what a car is used for. I like beating people with manuals that think autos are slow...

I'll have another manual car though as I do enjoy rowing the gears

I think this arguement can be argued both ways. I've been on both sides, and driving one with a heavy clutch for long periods of time can make you hate stick. For people with who love stick, drive a 5spd/6spd car in NYC during traffic, you will cry for auto.

Stick is only amazing when the conditions are right. When you do not live in highly populated area, there isn't many street lights or stop signs, and the clutch you have in your car is not heavy, and the list goes on. IMO people should own both, use them when the time is right.

Fun street car= Stick
All out race car= Auto.

Anyone who does not agree with this is an idiot.:poke:

Exactly. Each have their purposes. You can really appreciate this - every time I go to work with my dad and get to drive the rig, even just moving them around the lot I wish they were automatics. As I get older and my ankles really start to bother me (arthritis from years of running), I really appreciate that my 05 Escape DD is a auto an not a stick. I don't mind the heavy clutch in the Cobra but it is nice not to have to deal with it every day. I don't need a 300whp "man car" for my 8 miles to work each morning.

I agree with the sentiment of the article though, that stick shifts really cut down on the BS and make you focus on driving. Even driving automatics, you won't catch me on the phone or drinking a coffee. I think they put the cupholders in the 5spd Mustangs in the way of your arm for a reason...

I agree with the streetcar/fun weekend car=stick
racecar: automatic

but everyone here is missing the absolute best of both: drag car/radical street car with a manual valvebody auto...Now thats bad ass.
