Fixed it. A well driven SS in ideal conditions will trap 111mph. I believe a couple magazines already have hit 110mph.

Yeah I was thinking LS1 cars and I used the actual record passes that I am aware of. :)

The current 2010 SS record is 12.87 @ 109mph. Though I am sure it will change by next summer. :)

Well this thread went to hell. I want to know what happened with the OP? Did the race happen? Who won?

Wasn't that him in the video racing the Lightning?

I'm too lazy to go back and read them all again. I think we have all figured out that the new SS can beat a stock Lightning by a nose.

The Lt1 arguement can go on forever. I know I have beaten one on the street that was clearly moded, in my moded Lightning (and an LS1 for that matter). Once we start talking mods, it sort of all goes out the window. I've been fully raped in my heavily moded Stang by a Nissan 240sx.

(wait, did I just say that out loud?)

How many stock 99-04 GT's ran mid 13's. A stock 01-04 L will run mid 13's in good air with 1.8 60ft on stock tires. Put a pulley, cai, and tune on an L and they will run mid 12's in good weather. I've seen it done.:coolman:

The problem is you obviously have something against me... my LT1 was slow and unimpressive... it's simply a solid comparison. Sure the Lightning was half a ton lighter, it also had 100+ more horsepower and 120+ more trq. They were still pretty competitive back in the day and the 01s were even quicker. I was not the one that made a remark about the LT1 stomping all over Lightnings so please back off for a moment figure out who your target really is.

I don't get what the deal is...it's obvious that the guy was in the wrong gear given the MPH they started at. The SS can remain unimpressive to you, who cares... I'm simply presenting facts based on real information that illustrates how the results are skewed.

FWIW I love lightnings and almost bought one several years ago... just because I own a Camaro doesn't automatically make me a nutswinger who can't acknowledge other vehicles.

Look- like I said in my pm to you- I publically apologize for the reputation comment. I confused you with burntardzilla

That being said I think you and many others discount what 20 extra hp and 3.73 gears can do for a vehicle. in the case of the Lightning it's good enough to get it into the mid to low 13's. Pretty damn respectable for a 46XX lb truck. That being said a properly driven '10 SS should be high 12's low 13's- as myself and others mentioned before- more than enough to beat a 01+ Lightning. The vid IMO is horribly misleading and should be run when the Maro has a couple thousand miles on it and has had an oil change and the nanny tune gone.

As far as the LS1 and LT1 running with a Lightning- the LS I can see it being neck and neck or beating an L in M6 form.....but an LT? you gotta be kidding me. Those things are pigs unless they have some decent mods. And yeah I drive a couple of Fords right now. But I'm a performance guy first and foremost- IOW's I'm not a nutswinger either. I've owned SEVERAL Chevy's including a 10 second 99Z28. ....just recently traded it for the L as a matter of fact.

Yea I can probably find a stock LS1 SS to run against in the L also. Many MANY stock LS1 cars have seen LOW 13s. Definitely more than a few have been in the 12s.

Stock Lightning?......that must be the one next to the Unicorn and the stock LS1 Camaro SS

a lightning is not any faster then a stick 2v gt of the same year... a stock m6 5th gen camaro should walk a stock lightning or lightly modified lightning i had one they are quick but nothing special

To quote Jonny Mac- "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!"...

So you have seen factory stock 99-04GT's running mid to low 13's?......I'm definitely calling BS on that one. Those are just as common as the Unicorn I mentioned above.

It's all good.. and thanks.. I figured you had me mixed up. That being said I was being very abrasive in my post and brought it on myself, for that I apologize.

I'm not downplaying the Lightning one bit..I mentioned in my PM that I know 01+ Lightnings are solid mid 13 second trucks... I think I just feel stock LS1 cars are solid low 13 second cars and you believe different. That's all. :)

I dunno... my stock LS1 Z28 was ahead of the fastest stock lightning pass I've ever heard of (13.3 @ 103mph) by a couple tenths and 5 mph.

It's all good bro....I've been known to be a jerk from time to time too. (even in this thread!!) I def need to take some of the blame.

I love LS1's...and I can definitely see one giving an L all it can handle and more. LT1's I can seeing giving 1st gen L's and 99-00 L's a decent runs- gen II especially the 01+ should slaughter Lt1's though- but anything can happen in the street.

I guess from my perspective the new SS should destroy the LS1 SS......and it doesn't- it's maybe 2 10ths faster, big woop. I think all the new "retro" cars made the same mistake in that they are too damn heavy. Who knows- maybe I'm just a throwback but this is also the reason I'd take a Terminator over a GT500....the bang for the buck just isn't there for me. Sure the GT500 runs the qtr a few 10ths faster but you can buy 2 Terminators for 1 GT500. Same same with the new SS vs the LS1 SS. It's a better car....but not enough better IMO to go out and drop THAT much coin on one. This vid (although misleading) hasn't convinced me that I'm wrong at all.

99-2000 lightnings are a even match for a stick 2v.... i have also seen intake exhaust gear tune 2v run 12.8s and idk about mid 12s with those mods on a
Lightning i ran one with similar mods and put 4-5 lengths on it?

I guess my L is a unicorn. As posted it has only a K&N CAI (on it when we got it). This car is a daily driver so don't want to do anything to change/risk that. I also pull my cars/trailer with this truck so I need it to be dependable.

I agree stock L's like stock LS1 cars are next to impossible to find. We have "Houston stock" here and it's full bolt on, maybe a cam....

Not really...All mine has done is the bottom of the air box removed...I can replace the factory airbox tomorrow and be stock again.

When I say BONE STOCK I mean right down to the factory filter. Although it's extremely common a CAI/RAI or aftermarket high flow filter is in fact a mod IMO.

Just like in another thread where an LS1 guy says he's "cam only" ...then goes on to list 1/2 a dozen more bolt ons.

Mods are mods....otehrwise why would we put them on?

Must have been my crackberry......I can't stand the web browser on it. I even sent it twice.

I pretty much said what is now in this thread....glad we sorted it out. I think it's a rarity these days- especially on SVTP.
