Yes, I think much of the development was done by Ford. Can you prove it wasn't?
The root for both may have shared designs, but the new Jaguar 5 litre was mostly developed by... Jaguar. Can you prove otherwise?

Absolutely, but a 5.0L in a volume car with warranty claims, reliability, low cost, and reputation to worry about wouln't be anywhere near maxed out either. It also will not have direct injection.
Even taking that into consideration, it appears you have missed my point. It doesn't have direct injection, Jag doesn't have "damb". The Jag doesn't have a larger bore, the Jag doesn't have better heads. And the Jag is about one year older already.

The Mustang GT will not be tuned for "low down" power? This is an American V8 we are talking about, it better have torque down low!
Yes that is correct, it will be biased towards the 400hp mark, with not as much torque as what you'll find in the F150 (and the Jag V8). Two different applications, two different states of tune, and hardware differences.

I disagree. I think there is a lot to be learned from the Jag V8. Is is not the closest engine we have to the upcoming 5.0L in the Mustang GT? Both 5.0L, very close (if not identical) bore and stroke. Heads? Valvetrain technology?
You are drawing comparisons and jumping to conclusions without considering what differences there are.
Anyway, the Ford's is squarer and has different heads.

Hmm, tricks not used on the Jag V8? That would be something. I wonder what revolutionary technology is going on a low price, volume car that is not going on a JAGUAR XJ, XK, and XF......
You'll know more about it when it's released.
Low price, and volume, doesn't mean they can't do it right. Using your theory that the Jag V8 was "developed by Ford", wouldn't that mean Ford could only improve on the Jag's V8????

Did you manage to read about the Ford's 3.7 litre pulling 305hp??? That doesn't have d/i, and cube for cube, that's more power than Jag's V8. Using the same specific power, that's over 410hp for a 5 litre.

Cheers.

When is Ford going to unveil the new 2011 Mustang GT? Is it supposed to debut at the L.A. Auto Show? The auto show starts today. I know the new V6 Mustang is making it's debut at the auto show, it would be disappointing if the new GT wont be there. Looking at the auto show web page, it looks like only the new V6 makes its debut

LA Auto Show

Doesn't Ford's new 6.2L truck engine have something like 411hp? Isn't this 5.0 coyote engine also supposed to make its way into the F-150? With this in mind, is it reasonable to believe that the 5.0 Coyote engine will have 400hp? If Ford released a 5.0 with 400hp, wouldn't that kind of make their 6.2L engine look stupid? I wouldn't be surprised if the new 5.0 gets 350hp.

A truck engine and performance engine shouldn't be compared. Two totally different applications.

Look for the 5.0 to come in slightly over 400hp.

First, there are multiple iterations of the Coyote, with different cams and different tunes.

Second, the Boss/Hurricane 6.2L is going to be the bottom engine in the HD trucks,m while the Coyote is the top engine in the F150. The two engines will be in completely different platforms.

Third, the 6.2 while only having 11 more horsepower is a truck engine and will have a huge torque advantage.

hopefully by this weekend. I'm going to the autoshow on the 11th. I'll be really disappointed if the new 2011 GT isn't there.
