WTF. Talk about handicapping the people we have put in positions to serve and protect us. I grew up respecting the police/mounties. Now the shit members have to put up with is rediculous. When did the person breaking the law get more rights than the rest of us? Do I like getting a ticket? NO, but if I break the law then its on me.

-snip- We were roadblocked with guns drawn. I had the laser sight of an ar-15 on my chest. They told us they were running an insurance/license check on that road today. Didn't stop any cars though. Any they can't figure out why guys keep running.....

Yup, they're doing that here too.

It's not just this thread.

It's not just this board.

There is a shockingly large portion of the population (online, at least), who project responsibility for things like this away from the person who chose to start the chain of events and onto those tasked with stopping it.

Everything it somebody else's fault. I have my rights. Sue somebody if I get hurt, no matter what, it's not my fault.

+1

People are idiots.

Threads like this make it easy to see who's prone to wanton disregard for public safety and personal accountability. :nono:

Thanks for being out there. You did the right thing and your job well.

For everyone else, let's be honest here. No performance enthusiast loves any PD. It's plain and simple. However, if you're going to do burnouts, accelerate hard to the speed limit etc. then you should be ready to pay. Pull over, get your citation and move on. If you're breaking the law, there is no gray area.

As for the person who mentioned sweating a bit when an officer is behind you, I certainly do. My tint is illegal, I have tinted plate covers and my exhaust note is a bit loud. But it is that way for a reason. I did it because I like it that way and I take the chance of dealing with it every time the car leaves my garage.

So you are saying a bike at or more than 1000 cc size alters the space/time continuum? Gimme a break. I can see 80 seeming like 70, but a hundred?

Haha, ok first off good job getting the guy. This kinda affects me because not only do I own a sportbike, but I'm also in the LE community. I've been a dispatcher for 3 1/2 years, and just recently got hired as an officer, I'm headed to the academy in a few weeks.

Have you ever ridden a 1000? It's pretty intense, you should try it sometime. Go to a track day or something, just to see how insane they are, I've never been on or in anything that powerful. I think the reason it seems like you're going so slow when you're actually going quite fast is because when you're in 6th gear doing 70, you're at about 3 or 4000 RPM's. The bike redlines at 13000, so 3 or 4 feels like it's bogging down almost, it's just really hard to explain. That being said, this was just an older 954, which weighs a ton, and isn't as powerful as a newer 1000.

Anyhow, the whole situation between sportbike riders and the PD is weird. On one hand like you said, you really do have problems with stolen bikes, we get a lot of those here in MD, and obviously they'll run. Same with stolen tags and suspended drivers license or no class M. It seems like they'll run for almost anything, this would all be solved if the idiots just owned up and pulled over. If it's a simple speeding violation, more than likely I wouldn't issue a citation anyhow. But if they run, of course.

With how easy it is to get away on these things, and a lot of dumb criminals/squids running more and more, and driving like morons in traffic, you're going to get a lot of citizen complaints and a general hate of the bikes by the public AND LEO's. Then the Police will do something like pull over huge groups of sportbike riders just to check them out, and the riders get to hate the Police and will run even more. It's an endless cycle, and I really don't forsee anything good happening. Tougher laws on bikes just furthers the hate on both sides. What we need, is for citizens to realize how fun these bikes are when ridden responsibly, and not endangering others. I've had people flip me off when I was just riding down the street at the speed limit, minding my own business. It just goes to show you the amount of hate the public has for most riders.

My advice to sportbike riders? Go to a track day, get it out of your system, and more than likely you're going to love it so much, you won't ride like an A*hole on the street anymore, track will consume your life. If you're speeding, and you get pulled over, don't run. And most of all, don't put others at risk by your driving, consider yourself as an example to the public, and ride accordingly.

Again, good job on the chase dude, stay safe.

This is an excellent post. Excellent!

I've been a patrol officer for years now and still get squeamish when a squad pulls beind me. I have illegal tint, loud exhaust and a 400 horse ticket magnet. If a statie stops me and shows his ass by writing me for equipment, I'm ready to pay up.

Consequently, I don't write tint or exhaust summonses.

I have a habit of speeding in my POV. I don't write standard issue speeding tickets... just reckless (although I admit my call load usually prohibits non-interdiction traffic enforcement. We have the peacocks (motors) for that shit!

Glad no officers were hurt in the chase. Nice work. It's painfully obvious that calling off the chase 10 seconds after the start or 10 minutes wouldn't have mattered. This guy was running with no one chasing him and would have hurt someone else or himself regardless. At least no one else was severely injured by his reckless behavior.

Police do not initiate the pursuit the offender does by not stopping. In New Jersey they make it real easy you can't pursue for motor vehicle violations. I attempted to stop a guy on a dirt bike riding in traffic he took off so did I. He then proceeded to pass two cars going into a blind curve i saw my pension going bye bye if he crashed. Why because we are not supposed to pursue. Some of you bitch when we don't do out jobs then you bitch when we do. You can't win so I say screw it hate me like me I don't care just make sure my pay check is there at the end of the week.

Horsfiad, excellent post my friend. No other way to say it!

Thanks guys! I feel think it's pretty simple and maybe we're the only three that get it. I don't think our logic here is astounding, it's just common sense haha.

Don't pull anything you're not ready to get in trouble for, know the laws you're breaking and pick your time/place wisely.

good job chasing the bike. The police should be held just as accountable as the rider, in those situations where the 'pursued' hurts an innocent person. As far as im concerned, the officers are supposed to be trained on how to handle situations, and not let adrenaline drive them to do stupid things. As wreckless as the kid showed the officers that he was, they should have terminated the pursuit long before the accident took place. Some poilce just have a mentality that they are super heros. The kid was pretty hopeless too

I can't believe this thread is still on the first page, let alone 7 pages.

I found out the guy did a walk through on the warrant. We'll have to wait and see what the DA plea bargains him out to.

Also, IMO if you are pursuing someone and you wreck your patrol car, its YOUR FAULT not the pursuee. Thats what you get for failing and being outclassed and not realizing that you cant catch them all.

Read up: Dent v. City of Dallas

If you don't want to read up these are the findings...you're gonna love it...

"The rationale for these decisions is that the sole proximate cause of the accident is the suspect's negligent conduct and not the officer's conduct in electing to pursue the lawbreaker. Simply stated, courts will not make police officers the insurers for the conduct of the suspects they pursue."

End of story...

I'm LEO and the stigma involved with a bike vs. police and the stigma with LE vs. some of public is the same.

Guy on bike does something stupid like a wheelie and the motorists he just blew by instantly hate bikes.

Guy decides to drink and slaps up his girl, police get involved and it's us getting into his business-not him getting drunk being an idiot and hitting his wife being the problem.

There are some police that suck, they make it hard for the rest of us that are just trying to help people out. Unfortunately like on a bike it's something that we've gotta deal with.

We could please 9 people but the one person that didn't like the end result is going to be heard, not the 9 people that were happy with the service they received.

Oh and BTW there is no way on earth anyone knows that there is a helicopter flying in the air. I never knew that air1 flew as much as they do until now. And there is no way on earth he could hear air1 with a helmet on and his adrenaline running, a helicopter is the last thing I'd be thinking about.

Good post, agree 100%. Like you said, people hear/see something once, and automatically think everyone/everything is like that. A lot of people just enjoy seeing the bad in things. I agree, the only time I EVER remember looking into the sky is when I'm on a leisurely cruise in the country, putting around and enjoying the scenery. No way he knew it was in the air, and regardless, it doesn't constitute an active chase.
