It was the fact that they were going to imply that maybe the whole movie was just a dream he was still in and not real life. I'm sorry, but if you couldn't see that one coming about 20 minutes into the movie then you're an idiot.

That was the general plot, not the ending. Try again?

They didn't infer that the whole movie might have been a dream he was still in until the ENDING of the movie. They threw a few hints out here and there, but that was not the general plot. The general plot was about them using inception to change the course of the heir's life. They were trying to play it off like the movie was normal life and then throw in that "Oh my gosh, that whole MOVIE was possibly a dream! I didn't see THAT coming!" ending. The writer leaving it up to you to decide was just them trying to be artsy and not so cut and dry. And by "ending", I'm not talking about just the last 20 seconds of the movie where they leave you hanging; I'm talking about the last half hour or so of a 2 1/2 hour movie where they start to really throw hints out that everything might not be what it seems (in case you were too stupid to pickup on it from the start). About 20 minutes into it, my girlfriend turned to me and said, "I hope this isn't one of those movies where the whole thing is a dream, but I bet it is...", and I was just about to turn to her and say the same thing.

Bottom line, it was a mediocre movie with an interesting concept and cool action scenes, but too much buildup and predictability for my taste. If you enjoyed it, that's great, but to each his own. I for one felt like leaving about 3/4 of the way through but was with two other people, so obviously I wasn't going to. From the point I felt like leaving to the closing scene of the movie, nothing happened that made me go "Wow, I didn't see that one coming. That was totally worth not leaving." My time could have been better spent going to bed early and getting an extra 45 minutes of sleep just for the hell of it.

HIGHLIGHT

Did they ever pull him out of the damn van??? His buddy just kinda swam off after noticing he was still sleeping. If it was still a dream, then he drowns and is definitely in limbo. They just never show anyone going back to save him, just him showing up on shore in his own dream. Unless I'm forgetting something. I saw it Thurs night, and perhaps forgot something.

A+ of a movie. Loved it. Although, I still felt the end was a little predictable. I whispered to my wife what I thought was going to happen about 45 minutes into it. I was pretty damn close. Will definitely buy this one!

+1... see my post above. Took me 45 minutes or so. lol.

Still a damn good movie. Lots of originality. Something different in the mainstream for a change.

Lol at people saying this movie is too complex. It's basically the same as saying "I like movies with no plot and that require zero thinking whatsoever". This movie is easily in the top 5 movies of the last decade.

I think the ending was just to keep you thinking and most people are reading way too far into it.

The totem was wobbling, in the dreams it always spun perfectly. That, combined with the fact he had no wedding band on takes away all doubt in my mind that he was in fact back in reality.

As PSM said, the ending was definitely nothing special to me. It was a good movie, with a very cool idea, but it wasn't as amazing as most people are making it out to be in my eyes.

WOW!!! The girlfriend and I just got back. Excellent movie with a great cast. This movie really brought me in. Didn't even realize I was sitting there that long. I guess the guys that said they didn't like it get easily confused or easily distracted. I'm deff giving this movie an A+. Decaprio did an excellent job. I might be taking my dad to go see this as well

I'm not easily confused or easily distracted. Complex plots that make you think are usually my favorite. I was extremely excited to see this movie when I heard the reviews, but I was just a little let down. I followed the movie straight through and just never had that "Oh my god" moment.

Deja Vu was much more 'mind-blowing' in my eyes. Even the last line in Shutter Island was a better ending than this I thought. I'm going to go see it again, maybe it will grow on me.

The fact that it took you 20 min. to decifer that the whole thing may and probably was a dream, is a little sad. I got that from the trailers. :poke:

The ending IN FACT gives no definite implication to him dreaming, or not dreaming. It cuts out JUST as the totem begins to wobble.

How can you say if it steadied itself for a fact? Did you see some special ending no one else did?

That was the general plot, not the ending. Try again?

I'm sprry my friend, but the days of mind blowing endings I believe are over for guys like us.

Ever since this genre started to get popular in the late 90's these are the only types of movies I get excited about. And can now usually guess the endings REAL quick.

The days of 'The Sixth Sense', Memento, Deja Vu, are pretty much over.

interesting.....I was thinking the Asian guy died.....so he was "in limbo" bc they said before they started if you die your screwed bc we are under heavy sedation. they left him and leo in the van under water. leo washed up on his shore...his "limbo" and the asian guy was old bc its been a long time on that level. they remember what they have to do and he shoots leo so now leo is in limbo. no? thats what I got....very interesting about the ring. I took the totem wobbling as thats when it was suppose to stop but bc he was still dreaming it just fixed itself

I didn't say it steadied itself for a fact. I didn't even imply that it steadied itself for a fact. I specifically said that they implied that it MAY not have been reality, as in they left it up in the air. Go back and read what I said.

And sorry, I never saw a preview for it or heard anything about it until my girlfriend and friend both said, "Hey, let's go see this movie Inception", and that was it. I also said that at the 15-20 minute mark was when my girlfriend actually said something about it being a dream but that I was already thinking that, so considering I had no preconceived notions about it until I walked into the theater and it started, I wouldn't say that's sad at all. Hell, I didn't even know who was in the movie until I saw Leonardo Dicaprio.

Work on your reading skills.

That is nothing but shit. They did it as a tribute to Edith Piaf, who Mal (Marion Collitiard sp?) was portrayed as in the amazing French movie La Vie En Rose. They were shooting in Paris as well, and it felt like a perfect fit.

All of y'all should watch that movie, as it's amazing and one of the best acting jobs ever.

Didn't watch it and don't plan to. It seems a bit "complicated" to me. I prefer relaxing movies where I don't have to think too hard and just relax.

I loved it.

I watched the movie and understood a good bit of it..but the more I keep reading about other people's theories online, the more it makes me have a double-take

now I don't know what the hell to believe, so many ways that it could be perceived! Awesome movie..for sure!

ok, im a little late here but i just finally saw this last night. didnt want to open this thread before i saw it and im glad i didnt what with all the spoilers.

i thought it was an excellent movie. i didnt bother trying to figure it out or predict it while watching it. i wanted to enjoy it and try to keep up with what the hell was going on lol. i definitely will watch it again via netflix and see if i notice any missing pieces.

leo was always an awesome actor. check out the movies 'this boys life' and 'basketball diaries'

agreed. most people have never even heard of "whats eating gilbert grape". i havent seen all of his movies but i think every single one i have seen with him in it were good (including romeo & juliet and titanic), and some were awesome (blood diamond, inception).

I guess it's differnt strokes for differnt folks, I wish there were more movies like this, where the ending is undefined and you actually had to process and think about the movie. I hate single/linear plot lines. :bored:

agreed. if you havent seen the movie "the prestige" go check it out. not only is it an excellent movie with great actors and plot but at the end you'll find yourself trying to figure out what actually happened. i found some interesting debates on various forums where people were trying to explain what happened lol.

as for movies with an awesome, totally unexpected twist of an ending, go check out "Eli". mind-blowing ending :uh oh: -although you have to know a bit about the Bible to get it as well as enjoy it. people who dont, think it was just ridiculous :rollseyes

i fell asleep during avatar. missed about 6 hours of the 10 hour movie  it was entertaining, like a video game, but that's about it. didnt really impress me like i had home cameron would.
