Trust me I know more about it than you do. Can you even tell me what platform the new Euro Focus will be built off of and what it shares it with?

Sure thing. The C1 platform.

Oh and thats shared with the Mazda 3 and one of the Volvos, I think the S40.

Why isn't the US moving to the C1? Because the move from the CW170 would be too expensive to retool the American lines.

All of them would be the
2004 Mazda3
2005 Euro Ford Focus
2005 Volvo S40 sedan
2005 Volvo V50 station wagon
2006 Mazda5

And to a degree the S197 (nothing more than a modified C1 with many of the same front suspension parts)
2005 Ford Mustang
Future models including
the Lincoln LS replacement
maybe a Ford Thunderbird (2+2)
and possible a Mercury Cougar or Capri

Then there is the C1-Plus AKA EUCD
2006 Volvo C70 coupe/convertible
2007 Land Rover Freelander SUV
Volvo XC50 SUV
Volvo XC60 SUV
Volvo S60 sedan
Volvo V70 station wagon
Next-generation Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute
2009 Ford Mondeo
2009 Ford Galaxy
2009 Jaguar X-TYPE

And you are right cost cutting is why they aren’t improving the US Focus

It’s not really savings when more parts are being shared between more cars going over to the new platform while the US Focus lags behind. Sooner of later the US Focus will have to make the switch to something else and right now that looks to be near the end of the decade.

It IS a savings.
Do you know how much it costs to convert a line?

Didn't think so.

Actually we all should, its one of the few cars that is making Ford money in the US right now. Which is exactly why trying to move the lines to a new chassis would be bad.

Yes but it is cheaper now than in say 4 years from now. It still makes no since to switch over everything else and leave just one car on an old outdated platform. Money would be saved between sharing parts rather than continuing to make old parts for one particular line of cars in one market. Why do you think the Ford's European operations went with the C1-Plus rather than the Mazda CD3 platform besides the inability of the CD3 to accept Volvo's straight-5 engines? What do you really think happened to the DEW98? There were only 3 cars being built off of it and it became far less expensive to switch over to a C1 based design. So it was dropped from every car outside of the Jag and they may even be moving the S-Type over to the XJ's aluminum chassis which would mean in 09 it too switches over to a C1 based platform.

You know,I bet if Ford didn't put so much money into making Mustangs handle like dump trucks they could afford to bring good cars to the US like the Aussie Falcon and Euro Focus. Then maybe just maybe their sales wouldn't be so damn low and they'd be able to get out of the hole they're in.

You know what is funny, the 05 Mustang's skid pad is only .03 less than that of the Miata.

If the Mustang is a dump truck, the miata must be a garbage truck...

You know what is even more funny? The Miata weighs almost 1300 lbs less than the 05/06 Mustang and still does the salolm at about the same speed.

Talk about a shitty handling car.

1300 lbs less, and the skidpad and salolm ain't all that different.

The heritage of the S197 platform looks one hell of a lot better than the '79 Fairmont based chassis we've had to deal with for the previous 25 years.

Yes but out of the competition we know at lest the Challenger will have a SLA while the Mustang and everything built off of the C1 is stuck with a MacPherson front suspension off of the Mazda3.
