2011-2017 Mustang GT/BOSS Cooling Head Mod by MMR, eliminate the #8 cylinder failure

Mmr 2011-2017 5.0 head cooling mod

mmr's cooling head mod is designed to help eliminate hotspots in the #8 cylinder by promoting coolant flow around cylinder # 8 - the cylinder long known to be the first to detonate with aggressive naturally aspirated tunes and forced induction. Dont fall victim to this failure, protect your investment with this simple, professional kit. Installation requires tapping out the factory freeze plugs (very easy) and simply installing the mmr kit. Kit is sealed with high grade o rings (included). Socketless hose does not require hose clamps for simple push on installation. Inlcudes all parts shown, no other parts required. Fits all mustang, boss and f150 with 5.0 tivct engine. Billet alloy construction. This should be the first step in modifying your 5.0 , 100% usa made by mmr

No pictures of the kit on the site, can you post them here? Can you get to the freeze plugs and get them pulled with the engine in the car?

Just added pics above and yes, with the intake manifold removed the plugs can be popped sideways and removed with a pair of pliers, install is a snap!

Coolant flows from front to back, bottom to top and only balanced at the front, the cylinder head temp sensor is only on the passenger side, this means not only does # 8 run hotter because of the water jacket design shown below but also that the ECU has no idea that it is running warmer on the driver bank and does not make timing calculations to accomodate the higher temps. This part directly and indirectly fixes all aspects of the concern.

here a pic of the water jacket, you can see it does not surround the intake port on cylinder 8:

Can this be installed with the motor in the car or does it have to be taken out/put on a hoist to get to the back.

Our dyno testing showed a coolant temp decrease and more importantly the ECU now indirectly samples both banks because the balance tube hose joins just above the factory temp sensor. All of the logging was done through racepak sensors and data logging equipment. Bottom line, it does fix the problem, we run this fix in our very own Coyote engine that has made far more power than anyone in the country. Please call anytime if you wish to speak with a rep for more detail, we are always here to answer any questions or concerns!

Though I know it wouldn't be your place to say, why is, you think, Ford hasn't remedied this issue, since I know the 03-04 Cobras have a mod just like this and I was told it was a must have before putting the motor into my project car.

Simply because the problem isnt apparent with stock tunes/no mods to the car (when the engine isnt being pushed)

Thank you, I believe once I get a little coin I will be doing this, not exactly going to push the car too hard but would love the piece of mind that the coolant flows evenly.

I was told this is a waste of money by some of the biggest shops in the country that deals with coyote/roadrunner platform daily!

Many said the same thing about the Cooling mod for the prior 4v's also. Bottom line , the problem exists and this is the fix. Since we have produced FAR more power and have done more coyote research than anyone in the country and have the worlds fastest and Highest HP coyote most would agree that our experience far outweighs internet opinion but everyone is entitled to their opinion and we respect that.

May be true since very few people will get that much HP out of their Boss or GT, however piece of mind at 190 doesn't seem to bad.

We have installed this a couple cars in the last couple weeks and sent some over to our boys stationed over-seas. What we have noticed is that the cars ECT's have stayed cooler. Now we have not done any serious testing because the motors that they went in were all new built ones going through seating of the rings but we are looking forward too see the final result. So far, we trust this product very much and if your swapping out the motor, we deff recommend this mod!!

Just got my shorblock installed that I had built by BBR and shipped to me over here in Germany. BBR recommended this cooling mod since I have a blower setup. Literally took me no time at all to install. And once I got this installed I noticed that my ECT's have dropped a noticeable amount from my Aeroforce gauge by almost 10 degrees in traffic and noticed on my instrument cluster as well that it's cooler. This a great way to keep the engine cooler for less detonation and I would recommend this for any new Coyote 5.0's for some good insurance for your investment. Thanks BBR and MMR.
