I see the TV manufacturers are starting to sell these now. Is there anything on the market that can utilize the extra resolution or is it just a sales gimmick?

Certain BR releases is all I've seen. I'm sure next gen games will be. It'll prob be 10 years before TV catches up to it.

Little to no 4K content currently available. Too soon to jump on the bandwagon. However this is the future and will replace 1080.

Its a marketing gimmick. Totally worthless "technology." Its already been scientifically proven that the human eye cannot even discern the higher pixer count at 4k except for in EXTREME circumstances. From what i read you dont eevn get any benefit over 1080 unless you have a 72" screen and only sitting 10-15ft away.

What everyone said in this thread. Not worth it and you wont be able to tell any difference unless you have a big TV and are certain feet away from it. Waste of money.

Next "gen" gaming consoles wont benefit from it either, 4K will be too much for their GPU's.

Where 4K really helps is with video processing. What I do always requires some measure of zoom in post processing. One of the reasons we are going to be upgrading to 4K cameras soon is because we can zoom down to 1080p resolution without clarity loss.

On the end user side of things, it will likely be years before you see any internet feeds or specifically broadcast television feeds that show up in 4k resolution. Also, as has already been mentioned, the resolution is pretty irrelevant unless you're talking about huge viewing monitors of around 80" or higher.

If you've simply got to be the first guy on the block to have a massive 4k television, by all means spend the 5,000-10,000 it's going to cost you right now. But know that all you're going to be doing is watching 1080p feeds on it for the most part.

Boobies are much sharper in 4K.

Vivid is already doing demo porn in 4K.

Porn is always the early adopter in new viewing technology.

I'll be interested when they debut "holodeck" porn. For full immersion into your research, of course.

Obviously they must look better and sharper or else nobody would produce them if they weren't better than 1080p.

Im sure just like 1080p to 720p and 720p to tube tv, once its standard well look at 1080p sets and go "how did we ever survive?"

It would have to become a standard with 'HD TV' to truly be accepted by the consumer, but the bandwidth required would required advanced technology with the cable used for cable TV. Right? So for now, it is a limited luxury item for in-home movie purists who can afford it. Some day, it will likely be the standard for high def television.

I would love to see a demo with both a 4K 65" set and a 1080P set.

We have a Sony 4k the at work with a special Sony hard drive connected so we can display 4k comtent . looks good but not good enough for the money. Its not a big difference like going from 480i to 1080i ten years ago.

Current 1080p sets look good enough until you get into larger screens and or front projection.

My understanding with 4K TV's is that you'll only see the difference when you're sitting 3 feet or less away. The good thing about 4K TV's is I HOPE it drives the price down of the current highend TV's. I saw the 84" Sony at Nebraska Furniture Mart and wasn't impressed for the $$$ you'd have to spend.

If I were to get a 4K TV right now, this one had decent reviews if you don't need all the fancy stuff: Amazon.com: Seiki Digital SE50UY04 50-Inch 4K UHD 120Hz LED HDTV: Electronics

I agree, I wouldn't mind having a nice LED. I don't think spending all that money for a nice 4K setup would be worth it currently.
